DELAND--Rawle J. Rawle J. Deland, a man of radiant charm and infectious enthusiasm, died on Tuesday, November 1st, at forty years old. He was a music industry professional, a gifted athlete, and a devoted father and husband. Rawle was born on March 5th, 1982, to Emme and Jonathan Deland in New York City. Raised in Manhattan with his younger sister Kate, Rawle graduated from Trinity School and Harvard College. After college, Rawle began his career in investment banking and earned his MBA from Columbia Business School. In 2015, after a decade in finance, he was lured away by his deep love of music, to work at Warner Music Group. In his role as Vice President of Digital Strategy, he relished the fact that his work touched the careers of some of his favorite artists, from Wiz Khalifa to Ed Sheeran. In the summer of 2007, on a night out in Manhattan, Rawle met Lucy Grayson. Lucy and Rawle swiftly fell in love. Within a year, they were sharing an apartment with their new puppy, Kula. They married in 2010, in Prouts Neck, Maine, where Lucy had spent many summers growing up. Rawle became a cherished member of the community there, known as a formidable competitor on the tennis courts and an exuberant presence on the dance floor. They welcomed their daughter, Daphne, in 2017 and their son, Bruns, in 2020. Rawle took immense joy in his children, fostering their passions and enveloping them in love. He spent hours filming Daphne's many musical performances and coaching Bruns on his tennis swing. Rawle was known for making friends easily, celebrating others thoroughly, and always bringing joy into their lives. Rawle is survived and forever loved by his wife, Lucy, his children, Daphne and Bruns, his parents, Emme and Jonathan, his sister, Kate, his grandmother, Phyllis Levin, his dog, Kula, and too many friends to count. A celebration of Rawle will be held Wednesday, November 16, at 5:30pm at the Park Avenue Armory. The doors will open at 5pm.
