Anne Davis
January 26, 1931 - January 11, 2025
Anne Reeves McVay Davis, 93, of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, died peacefully after a brief illness in Tristar Summit Medical Center in Nashville, on Sunday, January 11, 2025. She was surrounded by her children and several of her grandchildren when she passed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathan Frank and Helen Welch Reeves, as well as her first husband, William Thomas (Bill) McVay on December 4, 1963, and her last husband, Alto Jordan (Jack) Davis, on September 24, 2007. Anne was born Charlotte Ann Reeves in Troy, Alabama, on January 26, 1931. She grew up in Montgomery, Alabama, where she attended Forest Avenue Elementary School, Cloverdale Junior High School, and Lanier High School. She enjoyed playing piano in the Lanier orchestra and in her boyfriend Jack Davis's swing band. She was baptized at the age of sixteen at First Baptist Church of Montgomery. Anne studied Home Economics and Elementary Education at University of Alabama. She and Bill were married on March 20,1953, in the parsonage of Fultondale (Alabama) Baptist Church. They had two children together, William Thomas McVay, Jr., and Teresa Anne McVay. She moved with her children to Montgomery, Alabama, after Bill's death in 1963, and taught school at Carter Hill Elementary School and The Montgomery Academy until 1983. Anne married her high school sweetheart, Jack, in 1983, and moved to Coral Gables, Florida, where she and Jack were active members of the University Baptist Church choir. While there, she directed the church's Child Development Center for several years. After their retirement in 1996, Anne and Jack moved to Jackson, Tennessee, to be closer to daughter Terry and her family. While living in Jackson, they travelled, attended West Jackson Baptist Church, and became active with the Jackson Symphony, and Anne pursued her long interest in her family's genealogy, joining the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). After Jack died in 2007, Anne followed Terry and her husband, Dr. Page Walley, to Auburn, Alabama, and continued her DAR involvement. She lived there until moving back to Tennessee with Terry's family in 2018. Anne will always be remembered for her graciousness, generosity, selflessness, compassion, resilience, fun spirit, perfect grammar, and as a true Southern Belle. She is survived by her children William Thomas (Tom) McVay, Jr., (Jaime) and Teresa Anne (Terry) McVay Walley (Page); close cousins Beppy Tiller (Buddy) and Debby Pouncey (Clarence); stepdaughters Bonnie Hutchinson (Howie), Dell Ragsdale (Chalon), Gerry Bagley (Mike); eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; other cousins; and her cat Baby. The family wishes to thank the angelic nurses and staff at Harmony of Mt. Juliet Assisted Living and Tristar Summit Medical Center for much tender care and friendship. A celebration of Anne's life will be held at Leak-Memory Chapel in Montgomery, Alabama, at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2025, with Dr. Page Walley officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m.; a graveside service will take place immediately after the service at Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens.
