Mr. William E. “Bill” Scott Obituary

Valley, Al. – Mr. William E. "Bill" Scott, age 80, a resident of Valley, Alabama, died on Monday, December 29, 2008 at his residence.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 2, 2009 at 11 AM / EST at the Hillcrest cemetery in Lanett, Alabama, with Rev. Wayne Greathouse officiating.
The Family will receive friends on Friday, January 2, 2009 from 9:30 AM / EST until 10:30 / EST at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley.
Mr. Scott was a 1947 graduate of Lanett High School. He worked at several area radio stations, including WRLD, WCJM, and WPLV as a newsman and radio personality. He also worked as editor of the Milton Press Gazette in Milton, Florida, as well as city editor of the Sanford Herald, Sanford, Florida, and as an investigative reporter for the Cleveland Banner in Cleveland, Tennessee. Mr. Scott was also involved in community outreach through the House of John, which he founded in 1989 in Lanett, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his parents James Wood and Nellie Kate Beard Scott, three sisters – Thelma McKoon, Maxie Newton, and Jackie Henderson; two brothers – Ralph Scott and James D. Scott.
He is survived by his wife who loved him dearly for 56 years Jimmie Morgan Scott; four children, Connie Cosby of Wetumpka, Alabama, William E. Scott, Jr. of Suffolk, Virginia, Vicki Richmond of Cantonment, Florida, and Mary O'Shields of Pensacola, Florida; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home of Valley is in charge of arrangements.
