Ocala - Jack Lewis Schrier, 72, of Ocala, FL died at his home on May 24, 2013, surrounded by family and friends.
Jack, an international financier and Vanguard High School girls' tennis coach, was born on November 7, 1940 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Following his graduation from Kalamazoo University High School, he attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Hope College in Holland MI, and Georgetown University in Washington D.C, where he received his doctorate in Arabic History and Culture. He was recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship to study at the American University in Beirut, and the American University of Cairo, Egypt.
A U.S. Army veteran, Jack spent most of his career in international finance banking, while living in Westport and Ridgefield, CT. In Ocala, he was an avid sportsman in tennis and golf, and an active member of St. Paul's UMC's choir.
Jack is survived by his wife Diane Schrier; his son Eric Schrier of Virginia; daughters Rebecca Schrier, Washington D.C., Jillian Schrier, Gainesville; and brother Mike (Lorna) Schrier, Montgomery, AL. He is also survived by many cousins, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Trudy Schrier and brother, Billy Schrier.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 15th, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to USTA Tennis & Education Foundation, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, or American Cancer Society.
