Brian Harp Obituary

Our beloved son, brother, grandson and uncle, Brian Edward Harp, died unexpectedly on August 13, 2011, at his home in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

Brian was born on February 19, 1979 in Akron, Ohio. Just a little guy at the start, he quickly grew into a radiant toddler with a smile and a sparkle that would beam outward as he challenged the world to keep the pace with him.

Even at a very young age, you would hear him play his Sesame Street record player at top notch while singing ``I love rock & roll, put another dime in the juke box, baby!!' He would dance about, swinging his arms and stomping his feet, as he would feel the music flow through his soul.

Just after the age of 4, his brother Michael became his sidekick. These two superheroes set out to conquer the world, needing someone to protect and guard. Brian was 6½years old when he attended the actual birth of his baby sister Amanda. What a team the three of them became.

Brian attended Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Cuyahoga Falls from kindergarten through 8th grade. He was active in many sports, including baseball, basketball, soccer, volleyball, gymnastics, and karate. He played the saxophone in the band, and was a member of Boy Scout Troop 179. He was confirmed at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, where he was as an altar server. His bold enthusiasm was definitely a challenge to some, but he left an imprint that would not be forgotten. Even then he followed his heart!

Brian attended St. Vincent St. Mary High School and Cuyahoga Falls High School.

Brian was a friend to many, always wanting to share his love and laughter. He always greeted you with a big old hug and most often a kiss, and with a smile that warmed any room. He would always be the first to lend a hand, support the underdog, or to start and end an argument. He forgave easily and was a compassionate listener for anyone that needed to talk. He genuinely was concerned about others, sharing not only their joys but their tears. He loved to cook and had always wanted to go to culinary school. He did work and cook in many restaurants, including Bob Evans and The On Tap Bar & Grille in the most recent years. Brian loved animals and had many pets that he loved and cared for.

He became an official big brother to his cousin Tony Dolan, when Tony's dad, who was Brian's uncle Bobby Dolan, left to join the eagles in heaven.

Brian's brothers and sisters and their children, Ayden Michael Harp, Delaney Rose Harp, Gavyn Michael Hankinson, and Ariana Paislee Dolan were the absolute loves of his life. Everyone who knew Brian knew his family was the most important possession he had. This extended to his many cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents as well. His love for his ``Ma', who was his grandmother, Dottie Hoffman, was at the top of his list. He thoroughly enjoyed any family get together, big or small.

He loved to dance and was blessed with the ability to do so. He became a country dancer first at the Boot Scootin' Saloon during high school. Dancing became his passion and his release, that allowed his spirit to flow to others. He could remember the words to any song and loved to sing. He loved to go to Blossom, loved to travel, loved to eat and loved the sun and the beach. He loved movies in addition to live theatre. He became a family member at ``The Dusty Armadillo' where he would shine on the dance floor. His talk about the fun he had there was infectious, and he drew in so many people to join him through the wee hours of the night. A special tribute to Brian was held at ``The Dusty' on August 17, 2011 so his family and friends could have a special last dance in Brian's honor.

Brian was preceded to heaven by many loved ones including his uncle, Robert ``Bobby D' Dolan and his grandfathers, Jake Dolan, Jack Vance, Roy Harp, and George McClellan.

Remembering his passionate love and his gift to their life, are his proud parents, mother, Cheryl Harp and her partner David Farkas, father, Steven Harp and his wife Kerry Haglund Harp; best friend and brother, Michael Thomas Harp and his wife Taryn Harp, their children Ayden and Delaney; his beloved sister, Amanda Marie Harp and her fiance James Hankinson, their son Gavyn; his strong cousin, Anthony Joseph Dolan, his partner Leigha Huckoby, and their daughter Ariana; as well as his grandparents, Dorothy (Dottie) and Robert Hoffman, Gladys Harp, and Marillyn McClellan.

Each of us begins a new journey, a journey of grief for some, a journey of peace for Brian. In honoring his life, we ask each of you to carry forward his laughter, see his smile in a ray of sunshine, hear his song in the wind and feel his heart beat inside of yours.

His family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Good Neighbors Food Bank of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Brian loved to prepare for others and would never want to see another person go hungry.

Brian, thank you for the light in our lives. We will ``Carry on with style.'

Calling hours for Brian will be held TONIGHT, August 18, 2011 at Redmon Funeral Home from 4 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, 11 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Cuyahoga Falls, Fr. James Singler celebrant. PLEASE MEET AND FORM PROCESSION AT THE CHURCH. Burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Cuyahoga Falls.

Cheryl, Steve, and family! I was so shocked at the news of Brian's passing! I remember Brian at the family reunion! He always played in all the Baseball Games, and was pretty darn good at it too!! I never saw him without a smile on his face, and he always made sure that he talked to every single family member! His smile was so contagious! You could be in a down mood, and look at him smiling, and instantly a smile would show up on my face! He was a wonderful guy! When he worked at the Dr.s office, he would always greet me with compassion! What a guy! I feel so lucky to be his cousin, and have him in my memories always! I can even remember him as a little guy! What a crack up he was, and so cute and really active! Boy was he ever! I loved to watch him play games as a kid! And when he won a prize, he grinned from ear to ear!

I want you to know that my thoughts, prayers, and the gift of having him in my life are with each of you! My sympathy to all of you! God be with you through this tragic time!

Your cousin,
Jeff Burnside

August 19, 2011

Dear Brian,

When I heard the news I was sure that it wasn't true. How could you be gone? So young, so caring and truly a blessing to all who were fortunate enough to have had you in their lives. I thank you for treating me as if I were still "one of the family". You never judged and only offered friendship to all. The fun we had, out dancing, laughing, smiling, singing and just being plain silly were some of the best times in my life. Kim, Terri, Jason and you gave me so memories that I will cherish forever. You never did tell me exactly how many shot glasses you had! I know that you were welcomed by the angels and reunited with your loved ones. Although your passing has left much heartfelt pain I know that you are now an angel and you will watch over your family and friends until they too, become angels. Say hello to Doug and Debbie and let them know that I still miss them very much. As my promise to you I will continue to "pay it forward" as you have done. Though I find it difficult to smile these days I know that you would ask everyone of us to contine living the life we were meant to. You know I've done my grieving from afar, and I know that you know the reasons why. I will hold you in my heart, and no one will be able to steal the memories I have of you. God has blessed you for eternity and one day I will see you again ... until then I thank you, miss you and love you.

I am so sorry for your loss!!! I went to Cuyahoga Falls High School with him! We were not close friends but he had an amazing heart!!! I was being picked on one day and he walked over to me put his arm around my shoulders and said "Is everything ok?" I instantly smiled and said " It is now" from then on it was smiles and waves when we saw each other! Heaven inherited an amazing soul! He made a difference in my life! Gone to soon but never forgotten!!!!!!! Rest in peace Brian!

Brian influenced many, many lives and has left a lasting impression in each and every person he encountered. Brian made everyone feel special and made them feel as if they were the most important person in the world.

In his competition to light the world up brighter than the 4th of July he succeeded. His smile, his hugs, and his outgoing personality electrified every room he entered. He was easy to meet people and easier to start to care for them!

We've lost a wonderful, compassionate, and caring friend and I propose to everyone to pass his light on. Through kindness, compassion, and "giving forward" please pass Brian's energy for life on to the next person you meet. Brian would be proud!

We love you Brian and miss you everyday.

Steve, Cheryl, and Family..we will keep you in our hearts and prayers but please remember all of the lives that Brian touched....his spirit lives through all of us.

Love. Mike, Sandy, and Family

We little knew that morning that God
Was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
You did not go alone;
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories,

And though we cannot see you,
You are always at our side.

I had the pleasure of knowing Brian for many years!! He had marched for The Black*Hawk Baton & Drum Corps Youth Group in the late 1990's!! He was actually my "bell Player" in our percussion section..and he was a "hella of a player"..everytime I watch that video I giggle because he was always trying to kill those bells..to see the look on his face was priceless, and then he would throw that contagious smile around, which everyone adored..he never was in trouble, ever!! Brian has a beautiful soul and a had huge heart..I just wanted to share that with his parents..Take care Brian and don't forget to take your "bell mallets"...****HUGGGSS****xo.....

Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you.

To Cheryl & all of your family..especially Brian's Dad, Siblings, & Grandparents. To your extended families & all of your's & Brian's friends. I never had the privelage of meeting this young man whom all speak of with tenderness, love, admiration, & respect. I am praying that God may give you comfort & solace for your broken hearts & tortured souls. No human being can conceive the extent of your pain. Remember a few things, please..."Only the good die young" (meaning they will no longer suffer the pain of this world). God holds him in happiness & treasures which compare with nothing! Everything happens for a reason, even if we are never to know why in this lifetime. Don't try to make sense of your feelings, don't let anyone try to tell you when it's time to let go of your grief. Do not judge one another for grieving too long, not long enough, or in very different ways from another. God be with & Bless you all! May you have a service befitting of his soul.

To the family; Thank you for always making me feel so welcome when I was with you all! Explains where Brian got his HUGE heart from. When he passed I lost a friend. All of you lost a son, grandson, brother, uncle, nephew or cousin. He was loved by SO MANY! All of the posts and comments on both memorial pages, his Facebook page, and all of his friends Facebook pages show how many lives he has touched.

To the friends; Brian was ALWAYS the first person in line to give you the biggest, warmest, most loving hug and kiss on the cheek! Always offering advice and help whenever he could give it. We all have lost an amazing man that I'm honored to call a friend.

And last but certainly not least...

To Brian; You are one of the most amazing people that I have ever met! I love you so much... Always there for me no matter what. We've had our rough patches, but in the end we always worked it out and it ended with a hug, kiss, laugh, and a smile. 4 things I will always cherish. Tomorrow at about 4:30 I would be texting you to see if you were going out to the dusty.. I don't need to send that text tomorrow. Not just because you don't have your phone anymore, but because I know you'll be there with me tomorrow and every week to come. Tomorrow night were doing one of your favorite dances in honor of you. It's absolutely amazing how many lives you have touched in your much too short life. We all love and miss you so much. Keep on dancing Pookie!

With love always and forever,

Tomorrow at about 4:30 I would be texting you to see if you were going out to the dusty.. I don't need to send that text tomorrow. Not just because you don't have your phone anymore, but because I know you'll be there with me tomorrow and every week to come. Tomorrow night were doing one of your favorite dances in honor of you. It's absolutely amazing how many lives you have touched in your much too short life. We all love and miss you so much. Keep on dancing Pookie!

With love always and forever,

Cheryl, Steve, Amanda and Mike and the rest of the Dolan-Harp family.

We were shocked to hear of Brian’s passing. Though we were not as close to Brian as the many we have witnessed the last few days via Facebook we can say that we agree with all of the comments that have been left.

Brian was a dynamic, thoughtful, caring, youthful soul who’s time came to soon. The world lost someone full of life who seemed to reach out and touch everyone he knew. He will be missed by many, for through his life he was able to reach out and touch so many people’s hearts without even trying. Simply by just being himself.

His memory will live on in each of us as we will reflect back on his life.

Our most sincere condolences,
Chuck and Marsha Gough
