Frederick N. Abels, 87, of Akron, died Tuesday Jan. 27, 2009 at his residence.
He was born June 28, 1921 in Akron, son of the late Everett Y. and Sidney Abels. He retired from the BF Goodrich Company after 35 years of service. He served 36 months with the U.S. Army with Company "C" of the 150th Infantry in Panama and was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Medal. Uncle Fred was proud to be an American and had a burden for our Armed Forces as well as for our Veterans, and he exhibited much gratitude for all who served. He shared this with most everyone he came in contact with. He was Post Commander at Post 7971 Copley VFW from 1983-84 and was a life member of the VFW, and a Trustee of the Copley Community Fund.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Amos P. Strickland, Fred N. Strickland, Peggy A. Perry, Phyllis J. Trench, Namon J. Strickland and Arvil G. Strickland.
Services will be held Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009 at 1 p.m. at the Catavolos Funeral Home, 3653 W. Market St., Fairlawn, 44333. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park with Military Honor Guard.

I'm sad that I didn't know when Fred passed away. He dated my mother, Justine, and he was important to both Mom, my brothers and I. We will always remember him.
