James Gambol Obituary

James "Jim or Jimmy" Owen Gambol

James "Jim or Jimmy" Owen Gambol, 69, of Duluth, Ga. passed away on Friday, the 2nd of October, 2015.

An Akron native, Jim was born on the 3rd of October, 1946, the son of the late Claire and Ed Clayton Gambol. He was a graduate of Garfield High School, Class of 1964. Jim served in the U.S. Army and was an infantryman during the Vietnam War, where he earned a Purple Heart. Before moving to Atlanta, Georgia in 1979, he worked for ten years at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company.

Jim was an avid baseball player, playing the catcher position for numerous teams around the Akron area for many years. He was inducted into the Greater Akron Baseball Hall of Fame. Jim continued his love for the game by coaching his daughter's softball teams. Known for his very quick wit, he always kept everyone laughing and never met a stranger. He especially loved to travel, taking a trip around the world.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Alana and two daughters, Kara Galbraith (Marc) and Jamie Brewer (Matthew); five grandchildren, Evy and Ryan Galbraith, William, Jackson, and Caroline Brewer; and sister, Joanne Noll (Ron) of Zeeland, Mich.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, the 8th of October, 2015 at eleven o'clock in the morning at Sardis United Methodist Church, Atlanta. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Liver Foundation, 39 Broadway, New York, NY 10006. Friends are cordially invited to visit with the family from ten o'clock until the hour of service at the church. Arrangements by H. M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328, 404-851-9900.

Alana, Kara, and Jamie, Jimmy was a wonderful, thoughtful, and funny person. He was blessed when he received the liver transplant almost 11 years ago. Jimmy never gave up. The three of you gave him the will to live through all the ups and downs. The love all of you shared helped each other, and the love will help you through these trying times. He is a new angel in Heaven watching over you.
Love always,
Carol Sanderson
