Thomas Kreakbaum Obituary

Thomas K. Kreakbaum

Tom Kreakbaum, 78, of Portage Lakes, passed away peacefully at the Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center on June 2, 2017. He was born July 10, 1938 in Akron to the late John and Theresa (Kraus) Kreakbaum. Tom graduated from Buchtel High School and then attended The Ohio State University and The University of Akron. After college, he worked for B.F. Goodrich as an engineer and retired with 30 years of service. Following a brief retirement, Tom enjoyed spending his time at the family restaurant, Peppe & Luigi's Pizza, and at his frame shop and art gallery, Green Studios. He was also a member of Adoniram-Joppa Lodge No. 517.

Tom was an accomplished artist and enjoyed painting with watercolors and metal-sculpting. He was an avid ice and bass fisherman, loved vacationing at the Outer Banks and spending time watching the boats from his deck on the Portage Lakes. He had a life-long passion for football and enjoyed being an athletic trainer for the Manchester High School football team for many years. One of his proudest accomplishments was being a member of the 1957 Woody Hayes-Ohio State Championship football team.

The family would especially like to thank Kathy Stoner for her never-ending support, care and guidance.

Besides his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Thomas Kreakbaum and sister, Margaret Nasvadi. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Barbara (Ososki); son, Douglas Kreakbaum; daughter, Debra Miller; grandchildren, Zachary, Alex and Emma Kreakbaum, Riley and Zane Miller; and great-grandchild, Caiden Kreakbaum; as well as many other loving family and friends.

We are reminded of Tom's favorite phrase - "Getting old isn't for sissies!"

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Schermesser Funeral Home, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd. (SR 619), Akron, Ohio 44319, with Magistrate Todd McKenney officiating. I worked with Tom at BFG for several years. I am looking at a slate rendering Tom made for me when I was a draftsman for BFG Aerospace at Plant 6 back in the late 60s. My deepest condolences go out to the Kreakbaum family. May God give you His peace and mercy during this difficult time.

Dear Barb, Doug, Debbie & Family:

We were so sorry to hear of Tom's passing.
He was such a wonderful man, friendly, entertaining, dedicated, and a wonderful artist. I can still hear the bell being rung for the Kreakbaum kids to come home from playing in the neighborhood. We enjoyed many dinners at Peppe & Luigi's and I have many pieces framed beautifully from Green Studio's, or as Julie called it, "Tommy's". We know he fought hard for such a long time with his illness, but never let it waiver his warmth and caring for others. Keeping "Tommy" and the rest of the Kreakbaums in our prayers. Our deepest sympathy to you all.
