DONALD HORNE Obituary

Jan 5, 1926 - March 31, 2015 MIDWEST CITY Donald A. Horne, 89, of Midwest City, OK, passed away on March 31, 2015, in Norman, OK. He was born January 5, 1926, in Ponca City, OK. He took piano lessons, played the clarinet and the marching drum in the Sons of the Legion Drum Corps. He taught himself to play the guitar and was part of a folk song group at Tinker. He served in the U.S. Army as an interpreter during his active duty in WWII. He was an OU graduate with a degree in architectural engineering. He was a fisherman and hunter, including black powder. He loved sailing and riding his motorcycle. He built knives and medieval weapons and sold over 400 pieces. Don was on the pistol team at Douglas Aircraft Company and a member of the rifle club. Don was a life member of the NRA and the H&H gun range. He returned to sketching during his time at the Norman Veterans Center, and his prolific art was admired by many. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Martha Horne; and daughter, M. Jane Hoehne. Don is survived by his wife of 32 years, Diane L. Horne; his daughter, Deborah Jessen and husband Terry; son, Barney A. Horne; stepchildren, Denise Haury and husband Stuart and James Wilson and wife Noi; and six grandchildren. The family would like to give special thanks to all who cared for him, especially at the Norman Veterans Center. Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home Chapel. Donations may be made in his honor to the Norman Veterans Center Activities Fund, c/o Norman Veterans Center, 1776 E Robinson St, Norman, OK 73071.
