ELBRIDGE GRIFFY Obituary

Griffy III June 3, 1932 - May 23, 2018 OKLAHOMA CITY Born June 3, 1932, in Oklahoma City, Elbridge "Bud" Griffy III, age 85, died peacefully on May 23, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbridge "Doc" and Mamie (Ruark) Griffy Jr.; his beloved wife Mary Jane (Babcock) Griffy; and his brother-in-law and sister, Albert and Nancy Myers. He is survived by his brother, David Griffy and wife Kay; four sons and their partners, Skip and Georgia, Bryne and Mary, Jim and Elissa, and Henry Griffy; granddaughter, Ana Griffy; and grandson, Shawn Weber. The family is grateful to Crystal Self and all the great staff at Right At Home and all the great staff at Heritage Point of Oklahoma City. Bud lived his entire life in Oklahoma City, except while serving as a jet pilot in the USAF and while traveling the country and world after retirement. Bud attended Harding Junior High and Classen High School, where he was a life member of the "Breakfast Bunch," before graduating with a degree in electrical engineering from The University of Oklahoma, where he played in the marching band and completed his ROTC commitment, earning the rank of 2nd lieutenant, and was a member of Acacia fraternity. He enjoyed a long career following in his father's footsteps at Oklahoma Electrical Supply Company (OESCO), where he made many lifelong friends and was actively involved with IBEW Local 1141. Bud oversaw the design and construction of the electro-mechanical systems of numerous large scale projects, including ICBM missile silos, Integris Baptist Hospital and Remington Park in OKC, often flying to far-flung jobsites in the private planes he co-owned (and usually landed safely) with friends. After retirement in 1994, Bud & Jane traveled extensively in their motor homes and to Hawaii, the Caribbean, Australia and New Zealand, visiting over 200 Methodist churches and innumerable greasy spoons along the way. We love you and we miss you. May you continue in peace. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2018, at the Village United Methodist Church, 2501 W. Britton Road, where Bud was an active and loved member, donor and handyman, alongside his friend, George Burton. Attendees are welcome to dress in Hawaiian shirts, as Bud did nearly most days after retirement. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Skyline Urban Ministries.
