The first time I met Harold was at the Living Center services at Baptist Village. At first, I thought he was just dropping by to "check me out" with his cool, solemn look. But as he became a frequent attender, I begin to realize he was just looking out for the benefit of all those he was close to.
I have fond memories of taking Harold to church with us on Wednesday nights. Every once in a while, we'd stop for dinner prior to attending. Harold loved his fried ice cream. "Man", he'd say, "this is living."
When Harold had to move, he was quick to call us to make sure we knew where he was going. As God's sovereignty would have it, my children played in a Big Band that frequented the very living center he resided at. He never forgot us and always welcomed us with a smile and a desire to introduce us to all who were there. How he loved my children!
I think a lot of people fail to realize the amazing people at living centers. Harold was among the best. He loved his wife, he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and he loved us. There was never a moment of doubt where you stood with Harold. I'm blessed to know we were on his side. In this bittersweet moment, we don't have to say goodbye, all we have to say is, "We'll see you in a little bit, Harold."
