MARIE WILSON Obituary

August 4, 1943 - May 2, 2017 OKLAHOMA CITY Marie "Dolly" Iveline Wilson, 73, of Oklahoma City, lost her courageous battle with carcinoid cancer Tuesday, May 2, 2017. She was born August 4, 1943, in Cumberland, MD to Marie & Rocco James Derrico. Due to her father's job transfer, at elementary age, she and her family moved to Marlow, OK. As a Marlow Outlaw, she made many lifelong friends who were with her even in the last hours of her life by her bedside. In high school, she was a dedicated and enthusiastic Marlow Outlaw cheerleader. As an adult, and after 20 years of nursing, she was known in the community as a successful co-owner of Eyes, Ltd. for over 24 years. During this time, she expanded the optical business and started an image consulting firm called Eyes, Ltd, Phase II. This led to co-founding an image development and management firm for entertainers and public figures in Nashville. In her community, Dolly volunteered her time and service to numerous civic and nonprofit organizations, including Community Action Agency, Charity Eye Clinic, and the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society. She was a former board member of the Arthritis Foundation of Oklahoma. In 2003, she was recognized by The Journal Record as being one of fifty Women of the Year Making a Difference award. Her compassion, empathy and loyalty made her a treasured friend to many. Her children's fondest memories will be her 1964 red Chevy Impala convertible with the top down at carpool regardless of the weather blaring her favorite music proudly embarrassing her children. She taught her family to always be kind, have integrity, show strength, have a strong work ethic and, above all, to simply enjoy life. She was always up for a challenge. Never without a smile even in her most painful days. Her philosophy was "success by anyone's definition is never achieved alone. Facing our fears with love in our hearts, smiles on our faces and faith in our God will make us survivors every time." She selflessly gave of herself to others. She loved being Italian; she was proud of that heritage and traveled to Italy to see her family every chance she got. We know this for sure, she is in heaven, giving long and unsolicited hugs accompanied with a few puppy kisses while simultaneously critiquing and adjusting one's eyewear. One of her most proud accomplishments was her children and grandchildren. Dolly was preceded in death by her parents, Marie and Rocco James; infant daughter, Kristina Marie King; brother, David Derrico; and sister, Pamela Soloman. She is survived by her daughters, Kimara O'Connor and her husband Joe O'Connor, Elli Fuller, Stacy Hall and Rusty King; her grandchildren, Baron, Alden, and Isabel O'Connor; Boston and Tanner Fuller; and Grayson, Griffin, Ethan, and Alex Hall; brother, Rocky J. Derrico; sister-in-law, Judy Derrico; brother, George L. Derrico; sister-in-law, Sharon Derrico; sister-in-law, Mary "Sis" Derrico; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank Frontier Hospice for caring for and loving our mom and all of those friends and family who took shifts in watching over our mom in her last days. A wake will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 11 at Smith & Kernke Funeral Home, 14624 N. May Ave. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 12 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Oklahoma City. Graveside ceremony will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 13 at Marlow Cemetery, 903 N. Ash St., Marlow, OK.

Dolly fitted me with my first pair of glasses. Soon after she invited me to join The Waterford Business Club where we spent many Wednesday mornings at breakfast and networking with friends. ...and yes, she would always reach up and straighten my glasses to make sure I looked just right. Her joyful laugh and wonderful smile lit up any room she entered. Even during difficult times, she still had that amazing smile. I'm so sorry I missed this announcement, as I would have surely been there to celebrate her life. Rest now, sweet Dolly.
