September 25, 1952 - June 22, 2014 OKLAHOMA CITY Philip Hughes, 61, passed away on June 22, 2014 and was born on September 25, 1952 in Oklahoma City. Philip was the son of Richard L. Hughes and Shirley Hughes. He attended Millwood Junior High School and then John Marshall High School. His college career began at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After two years at Coe he transferred to Oklahoma University where he received his degree in Electrical Engineering. He first worked for Mobil Oil in Enid and then Exxon Oil in Houston, Texas for about 12 years. From there he went to AOL for about two years and from there he retired and occasionally would drive the school bus for kids at the elementary level. He is survived by his father, Richard L. Hughes; his daughter, Allison Hughes of Houston, TX; his sister, Jennifer Loeffel and husband Peter of Milwaukee, WI; three brothers, Jon and Steven Hughes of Milwaukee, WI and Timothy Hughes of Portland, OR; a half sister, Rebecca Hughes Wint and husband Jason of Oklahoma City; two nieces, Abby and Alexis Loeffel; and a very special friend, Linda Wood. Philip was active in both Houston and Oklahoma in talking about his plan for the railroad to several groups in those cities. Philip had a brilliant mind and was convincing in his talk about the necessity of rail transportation for the people. Viewing will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 27th, at the funeral home. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Memorial Park Cemetery.

The Burtons

December 8, 2014

A light at night, a gentle flame to see you out and back again. Down the track and along the rail, gliding like a schooner's sail. If you see us waving blow your horn, we'll remember you and not be forlorn. Your smile from the Engine will be enough to say, I loved you all, now I'm on my way.

Phil was our neighbor for some time on 43rd street. He never failed to stop and see how we were and to talk about the Rail System he loved and had devoted much of the end of his life to. If the system flies in Oklahoma City, we will most certainly have Phil to thank. I'd wondered now for many weeks what had become of him. He will be muchly missed. The Burtons
