B. Meeker Obituary

Meeker, B. Joan
Age 85 - Apr 10, 2009
Betty "Joan" Meeker passed away peacefully on Good Friday, surrounded by her loving family. Joan spent the majority of her life in Wichita, KS, with the last 6 years in Omaha. After attending Baker University as a member of the Phi Mu sorority and working as a medical secretary, she married and dedicated her life to being a homemaker, raising her family and living the best years of her life with her loving husband of 59 years, Bob. She lived life to the fullest enjoying square dancing, volunteer work, scrap booking, and was an active member of Grace Presbyterian Church, where she had many cherished friends in the Cruiser's group. She and Bob enjoyed many trips to their son's home in Hawaii, ski trips with friends, cruises, and traveled to all 50 states and Europe. In 2002 they moved to Omaha to be near her daughter's family. Joan loved living at the Walnut Grove Retirement Community, where she made many dear friends and was a dedicated caregiver for her husband. She liked to exercise and walk their beloved dog, Sandi - her loyal companion. Although Joan lived with cancer for 5 years, she always remained upbeat, enthusiastic, and positive with rarely a bad day. She was a remarkable woman, helpful and welcoming to anyone, loved dearly and will always be in our hearts. Sincerest thanks to the caregivers and compassionate staff of Dr. Cloven's office, Papillion Manor and Silver Ridge in Omaha. Preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Alta Van Dorsten. Survivors include her husband, Bob; son, Roger Meeker and his wife, Terri, of Kapoho, HI; daughter, Jolene Adams and her husband, Bob, of Omaha; grandchildren: Tyler Brown, Trevor Brown, Jennifer Shukert, Jason Adams and Krystal Kapuras; great-grand children.
Memorial Service Saturday, 4/25/09 2pm at the Walnut Grove Retirement Community, 4901 S. 153rd St., Omaha, NE 68137. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Golden Retriever Rescue in Nebraska (GRIN) OR the Alzheimer's Association-Respite Grant. HEAFEY-HEAFEY-HOFFMANN

I helped your Mother do Her shopping at Walgreens (156th & Q) all the time she always made me smile when I would see her. She Was A very sweat Lady. She would always tell me how her Husband was doing. She would talk about Him and her family everytime she came in. I will miss Her and her smile. My Prayers are with you and your family.

To the family of Joan Meeker
I had the pleasure of being with Joan and Bob on many occasions at Walnut Grove playing bingo, line dancing and sharing the dinner table. My how they danced together! I respected and was very fond of both. I did chat with you several times Jolene on one of your many visits with your parents. My prayers continue for your father as well. Unfortunatly I lost touch when I left WG God Bless all of you. Ethel Dougherty Wall
