Jack Sweeney

John "Jack" Sweeney, age 75, died peacefully at his home in Athens on July 23, 2013.
Jack's death is mourned by his dearly loved family, including his wife of 46 years, Martha; sons, Kevin and Brian; daughter, Karen; Kevin's wife, Betsy Barry; and Karen's husband, Dave Gerow. Jack will be especially missed by his beloved grandchildren, Stella Sweeney and Daisy and Clementine Gerow, who affectionately referred to their grandfather as "Bop."
Jack was born on February 8, 1938, to the late James and Margaret Sweeney (née Boyle), in the Bronx, N.Y. His early life was shaped by his Jesuit education at Fordham Prep. As a young man living in the Bronx, Jack met and married Martha Shiel Sweeney, and worked as a stock broker before relocating to the Southeastern United States, where he lived out the remainder of his life.
Jack will long be remembered by his colleagues at Smith Barney, in Tampa, Fla., where he was a senior vice president and officer of the company, and by his many friends throughout New York and the Southeast.
Jack's devotion to his family was mirrored only by his devotion to golf. He was fortunate to have played some of the most renowned courses in the United States and Ireland.
Jack will always be remembered as charming, quick-witted man who enjoyed life, a good joke, and being with his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation in Jack's name to either the UGA Catholic Center Memorial Fund or to Nuçi's Space.
