Louis Satterwhite Obituary

The Rev. Louis Gold Satterwhite Jr., age 81, died peacefully at home in Athens on July 23, 2013.
He was preceded in death by his loving daughter, Dr. Julie Satterwhite, and leaves behind his devoted and loving wife of 55 years, Pat; daughters, Lee Ann (Mike) Spradlin and Elizabeth (Tony) Cruz; son, John David Satterwhite; grandchildren, David, Thomas, and Laura Spradlin, and Lauren, Sarah-Jane, and Andrew Cruz; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Satterwhite was born on March 21, 1932, in Waverly, Tenn., to Janie Hurt Satterwhite and Louis Gold Satterwhite Sr. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Air Force after graduating from Houston County (Tenn.) High School. He married his bride, Patricia Ann Shirley, of Nashville, Tenn., while attending the University of Tennessee, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in engineering.
Mr. Satterwhite worked as an industrial engineer in Nashville, Tenn.; Kennett, Mo.; Paragould and Rogers, Ark.; and Athens, Ga. He later became an ordained minister and served as Associate Pastor/Administrator on the staff of Prince Avenue Baptist Church, in Athens, for 15 years until his retirement.
"Brother Louis," as many affectionately called him, leaves a legacy of lifelong service to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a dedicated student of the Bible and a soul winner, leading many of his family and friends to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. He also invested his time teaching and counseling young married couples and advising them financially. He was a role model to his family and friends, and maintained relationships from different generations and different walks of life. He will be greatly missed.
Mr. Satterwhite was also a sportsman; he enjoyed deer, quail, and duck hunting, and was a champion and member of the National Skeet Shooting Association. He held championship titles in both Arkansas and Georgia. Most of all, though, he will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, because he loved to spend time with his family.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 28, at Lord & Stephens West, 1211 Jimmy Daniel Road, Bogart, with the Rev. Bill Ricketts and Dr. Mike Spradlin officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will be followed by the service at 3 p.m. Burial will take place in Athens Memory Gardens.
Special appreciation is given to the staff of Advance Care for their supportive and loving care-giving at home.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Satterwhite Scholarship Fund established by Rev. Satterwhite's daughter, Julie, at Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary, 2095 Appling Rd., Cordova, TN 38016.
Lord & Stephens Funeral Home West, Bogart, is in charge of the arrangements.

To the Satterwhite Family, my sincere condolences to you all upon the loss of Mr. Satterwhite. I will always remember those times our families celebrated Thanksgiving at Julie's home, spent hours playing dominoes, and when the Satterwhites brought me my little Yorkie, Toby, as well as my niece Megan's sweet little Gabrielle (Gabby). I know your faith will hold you up as you celebrate Mr. Satterwhite's life and the fact that he is rejoicing in heaven with Julie. I have all of you in my thoughts and prayers. With warmest regards, David.

I always loved listening to Bro' Louis preach. He was not an orator, just a man who loved God. It was obvious he put a lot of preparation into his sermons. He made a profound impact upon my life. May God's loving grace and comfort sustain you at this time.

To the Satterwhite Family, I am so very sorry to hear of your loss of such a wonderful man. I remember when I worked with Mr. & Mrs. Satterwhite while his hip was healing. He was a very sweet person. My prayers and thoughts are with you at this time. Jan M. Hughes

Mr. Satterwhite was a fixture to those of us who grew up and/or went to school at Prince Avenue. He was such a kind and gentle man; he always knew who you were and asked how you and your whole family were doing. My husband had the privilege of spending some time with him several years ago, and has always remembered him with fondness. To Mrs. Satterwhite and the rest of the family, we love you all! We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers!

Elizabeth: My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family today and in the days to come. May God grant you the peace that only He can afford and may you find comfort in knowing your Daddy is resting in His arms. Psalm 91:1
