Prince Gordon Obituary

Williamstown, MA - PRINCE HODGSON "RED" GORDON, of Sweetwood, 1611 Cold Spring Rd., Williamstown, MA died Sunday November 27, 2011 at his home at the age of 98. He was born in Athens, GA on August 11, 1913, son of Hugh H. and Nannette (Hodgson) Gordon and was raised in the Hodgson-Gordon homes on Prince Avenue. He graduated from high school in Miami, FL and also attended Deerfield Academy. He graduated from Williams College in 1935.
Red was a veteran of World War II and served in the US Navy as a fighter pilot, flying off of the carriers Ranger and Essex. He later served in the Naval Reserves. After the war, he joined Pan American Airways as an airline pilot, where he flew international flights from 1946 until his retirement in 1974. He was an avid golfer during much of his life and was a member of the Williams Sideline Quarterback Club.
He was the beloved husband of the late Lavinia (Sargeant) for 46 years. It was his good fortune to meet the late Nancy (Dwinnell) Kroll late in life and they were married in 1996.
He is survived by his two daughters, Nannette Conner of Kingsley, PA and Lavinia C. Gordon of Portland, OR, his daughter in law, Anne Cory, and ten grandchildren. Red's son, Sheldon Gordon, died at age 38. He also leaves five step children - Peter Kroll, Penny Barrett, Priscilla Farnum, Steven Kroll, and Cynthia Dwyer. Red had 10 step grandchildren, and 14 step great grandchildren.
Red was loving, intellectually curious, a self taught piano player and lover of Fats Waller. He was passionate and loyal to his family and friends.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Services for Prince Gordon are private and burial will be at the convenience of the family. The FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS CENTRAL CHAPEL at 74 Marshall St. North Adams, MA is in charge of arrangements.
