I met Mr. Hale a few years ago after I posted on a genealogy forum. My great grandmother was an Almand. He was aggressive in contacting me, found my home number and called me;I was a little frightened. My niece and I met him at McAlister's for lunch. He had brought me pictures and records. He was soo nice and the most enthusiastic person about genealogy that I've ever met. He even took us to my great, great grandfather's grave.
There was so much more that I wanted to know. I've intended to get together with him again. The years have gone by too quickly.
I hope someone in his immediate family is carrying his love for genealogy. He did great work. He will be missed.
My condolences to the Hale family. May you find comfort in your loving memories.

May God bless all of you in this time of sorrow. Robert was a good man and did much to promote the Almand Family Reunion. He was missed last year and most assuredly will be missed at the gathering this year. I am thankful for having the opportunity to know my cousin, Robert, and it is my prayer that God will bless all of you. Take care and if there is anything I can do for you, let me know. We will meet, but we will miss him.

We are so thankful that Mr. Hale took the time to write up the history of the Confederate soldiers buried in the Watkinsville City Cemetery and donate them to our DAR chapter. His work will ensure that this historic place will be on the National Register of Historic Landmarks. His legacy of historic preservation will have a lasting impact on Oconee County. May God bless you all at this difficult time. Know that he made his own place in history by caring enough to preserve the story of our ancestors and their role in founding our great nation.
