EUGENIA "DOLL" MOORE

EUGENIA "DOLL" MOORE Following a full and colorful life of over 100 years, Eugenia "Doll" Moore, passed away peacefully at her home on November 20, 2012. She was born on a farm in Woodward County, Oklahoma, on April 3, 1912, the youngest of four children born to Benjamin Franklin "Frank" and Ethel Azalea Richards. Her father, a federal marshal, moved the family to the small town of Orange, California, where he was later elected and served as police chief. Doll grew up with her family and friends among the orange groves, and following her graduation from Orange Union High School in 1930, she enrolled as a freshman at the University of Southern California.

She entered an accelerated degree program to begin law school during her last year as an undergraduate at USC and was one of two women in her law class of 1936. Doll was a pioneer in the context of the then male-dominated legal profession.

While at USC Law School, Doll met and later married fellow student, Robert London Moore with whom she had a son, Robert London Moore Jr., and a daughter, Marilyn Eugenia Moore. Her marriage was cut short by the death of her husband, a well-known Los Angeles trial attorney and adjunct professor of law at USC. Following graduation from USC Law School, Doll practiced family and probate law, and from 1959 to 1983 she served as vice president of the Mills Land & Water Company, a major landowner in Huntington Beach.

Over the years, Doll enjoyed many and varied interests. She was a regular in the spectator stands following her daughter's tennis at tournaments at the Balboa Bay and other clubs in Southern California. She was deeply saddened by the loss of her daughter who died in 2002 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.

Doll enjoyed sailing and looked forward to watching the start of the Congressional Cup, TransPac and other yacht races. Each summer, she joined family and friends on weekends at Crystal Cove State Beach and hosted an annual "End of Summer Beach Party". She made many friends as she followed her keen interest in tennis, USC football and Laker basketball. In recent years, Doll was an avid fan of "Dancing With the Stars".

At the time of her death, Doll was the longest living graduate of the USC Law School and the oldest member of the Oakmont Country Club, where until age 95, she enjoyed swimming each summer. Among Doll's passions was her belief in economic freedom and preservation of private property rights.

She is survived by her son, a grandson, son-in-law, nieces, grand nephews and nieces, and her devoted caregivers and their families. Doll will live on in the memory of all who knew her and will be truly missed by all of her family and friends.
