Alice Amidon Obituary

Alice Catherine (Kennedy) Amidon passed away peacefully at home in Altamonte Springs, FL on September 20, 2023. Born on November 13, 1928 in Paterson, NJ to the late Emma and Cornelius Kennedy, Alice was the beloved wife of the late Bill Amidon, loving mother to Kathy, Marilyn, Bill, and Alan, and cherished grandmother and great-grandmother.

In her St. Joseph's Catholic High School yearbook, Alice was described as "sweet and loving, ever kind, a finer girl you'll nowhere find" and "having a cheery smile for everyone"– qualities that remained true throughout her life.

She married Bill on September 23, 1950, and they began their life together in Florida once Bill returned from Korea. Alice was devoted to her children and supported all they did, and her love and care for people extended beyond those in her family.

In 1962, Alice and nine other women recognized a need for a fundraising group to help Morning Star Catholic School in its efforts to educate children with special needs. They founded the Morning Star Fashion Show and Luncheon to support the school's ability to provide quality education and improve the lives of these children, an event that continues to this day. Alice was also a long-standing member of Florida House, Florida's embassy to DC that connects Floridians to our nation's capital.

Alice lived her 94 years to their fullest. She was a member of the Young at Heart Chorus, a group of seniors who love to sing. She took great pride in her Irish heritage. She traveled domestically and internationally, even bringing her granddaughter to the opening of Euro Disney in Paris, but her favorite place was New Smyrna Beach. She loved anything chocolate, sewed dresses and stockings for her children and grandchildren, and set the standard for a joy-filled Christmas morning next to her always-beautiful tree. Her blue eyes received compliments from so many, and she delighted in seeing them passed down to the next generations. She was adored by her great grandchildren, who felt so lucky to have "Grammy" in their lives.

Her positive attitude, deep faith, grace, style, and loving heart will be forever missed and never forgotten.

She was preceded in death by her husband William Amidon, Jr., sister Carole Ward, brother-in-law Ronald Ward, and son-in-law Scotty MacGregor. She is survived by her children, Kathleen MacGregor, Marilyn Lowry (Ron), William Amidon III, Alan Amidon (Valerie); grandchildren Lauren Santucci Norton (Mike), Scott MacGregor (Jessica), Ryan MacGregor (Jessica Dunbar), Alan Amidon, Jr, Jenn Cathcart (Scott), Scott Lowry (Bree), Alexa Spears; great grandchildren, Avery Faith MacGregor, Delia Alice Norton, Lowry Ann and Peyton Cathcart, and Liam and Colton Lowry.

On Alice's behalf, her family thanks her loving caregivers, Ruthie, Annarose, Serita and her exceptional Vitas hospice team.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, October 6 at 1:00pm at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. 861 Maitland Ave., Altamonte Springs, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Morning Star Catholic School, Orlando FL, morningstarorlando.org.

I will always remember Alice "Mrs. Amidon" as the chaperone for our Washington D.C. trip sponsored by Congressman Lou Frey. She was so nice and managed to handle an excited group of 10 teenagers wonderfully for four days. Such a lovely woman, inside and out!

I had only met Alice a few times over the years, but truly believe I captured the many glimpses of her kindness and loving care for people through that which she so richly implanted in her daughter, Kathy, my friend of 54 years. I know her sweet legacy and "fragrant aroma" will abide in her children, grandchildren and great grands and will continue to touch many lives. Grateful for her life well lived.
