Charlie Lewis Obituary

Chief Charlie Lewis was born October 28, 1942 and left this world April 27, 2021 to join his beloved of thirty-four years, Joy Ann Lewis, who departed this earth March 27, 2013.

Charlie's life purpose was to serve the community during his tenure in the fire service and raise his family with unconditional love and support. Charlie's family legacy will forever remain loving husband to Joy; dedicated father to Lori, Michelle, Mark, Chris and Carlos; and devoted Poppa to Megan, Stefan, Travis, Genessee, Madalynn & Sage. He is also survived by his sisters Sylvia, Donna, Kathy, Ramona and their respective families.

After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Chief Lewis served in the Orlando Fire Department where he retired as Fire Chief in 1992. He then served as Fire Chief at St. Cloud Fire Department, retired 2010.

Charlie will be missed eternally but remembered by all when his life is celebrated in late June 2021 - details of the tribute forthcoming in May 2021.

Dad,
I am so proud to have called you my Dad. You taught me so much and were the most respected man I´ve ever met. The 35+ years that you were a father figure to me and my sisters, a husband to my mother, and proud Poppa, I will always cherish. I´m glad that you found Bonita after mom passed so that she was able to care for you the last few years of failing health. I will try and live well and make you proud. We will honor you and your wishes by placing you with our mother so that you may both rest in peace.

Charlie inspired me to become a fire service instructor, I took a course from him while persueing my fire tech degree at Valencia Community College. He showed me that a good instructor included everyone in the class and encouraged any and all questions, no matter how stupid, Most importantly was that he demonstrated how much humor helped in learning, I showed up in class knowing I was golng to learn something and have a damn good time doing it,

He was my chief at Station 1 for many years. Great man and great commander. He always found the best in his people and served his community with distinction.

Charlie was a truly a genuine person with a passion to serve others. He sure loved the fire service career and was well respected. Reaching the Fire Chief position came as no surprise. He fit the role perfectly. He nearly was hired by Oviedo after retirement from Orlando. Always wished that had occurred. He treated me as if we were life long friends. Wishing comfort for family and friends. Lars White, Fire Chief, Ret.

My condolences. I worked with "Gentleman Chief Charlie" for over 10 years at St. Cloud. He was a model for how to be dedicated to the goal and mission of the City and its Fire Department while always supporting the individual firefighters and paramedics. There are many people in the Florida emergency services business who have been enriched by having worked with and been mentored by Chief Charlie and the state and the public should be very grateful.
