Angel and her

I’m so sorry to hear that Angel had to leave us. She was such a special person and great friend. I have so many fond memories of her, including working with her at Suntrust, our trips to Fort Lauderdale and Vero Beach, the John Cougar Mellancamp concert (whom she was in love with back in the day!), and going out on Lake Toho with her and her parents in the pontoon boat. What I remember most about Angel, though, was how proud I was of her. She was such an inspiration, with her laugh, her smile, the twinkle in her eye and her positive attitude. I think she touched the lives of everyone she met and will be missed dearly by everyone who knew her. I was lucky to know her and honored to be her friend. Eileen, Bill, Kathy, Mike and the entire family - my deepest condolences; I’m terribly sorry you had to let go of your Angel on Earth, but now you have another Angel in heaven looking after you, and knowing her, she is keeping pretty busy up there!

ANGEL, WILL BE TRUELY MISSED! JUST BEING AROUND HER GAVE EVERYONE JOY. I USE TO WORK WITH HER AT SUNTRUST AND I HAVE MANY HAPPY MEMORIES OF HER. FROM OUR WILD TRIPS TO GO OUT FOR LUNCH AND HER DRIVING US THERE AS THOUGH THE ROADS WERE A RACE TRACK. TO OUR FIRE DRILLS IN THE OFFICE AND HAVING SOMEONE PICK HER UP AND RUN OUT SIDE FOR THE DRILL. AND HEARING HER SAY WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
ALL THE WAY OUT THE DOOR. SHE WAS A TRUE FRIEND AND GREAT TO BE AROUND. I WISH I HAD STAYED IN TOUCH WITH HER AFTER I LEFT SUNTRUST. FROM WHAT I READ IT SOUNDS AS THOUGH HER LIFE WAS A GREAT ONE. GOD HAS PICKED ANOTHER GREAT PERSON TO BE AN ANGEL WITH HIM. GOD BLESS THE FAMILY MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU.

Today, Rachel, my daughter, was cleaning out her bedroom and came running out crying, "Oh look momma what I found! And they still smell like her!" In her hand was a pair of clean socks Angel had left here when she was visiting us in May. I held them up to my face and breathed in her scent before I buried my wet eyes in them. Thank you Angel for leaving a little bit of you with us. :) You are so so missed and loved so greatly.

I just met Angel one time at a Regional in GA but I have thought about her many, many times since then. I was saddened to hear the news of her passing away. I pray that hers and Mike's family may find peace during this sad time.

In 1980, when Robert was a candidate for LPA President, he had the honor of being the first Little Person to talk to Angel about LPA. At the time, Angel was 21 years old and living at home under the watchful eye of her parents. However, the family was open to a visit from this newly graduated rehabilitation engineer and happy to show off the home modifications they had made for Angel.
It took awhile after that first contact for Angel to embrace the LP community, but over the years we saw her grow and mature from a reserved, stay-at-home person to an independent, self-assured woman. We were always impressed with her ability to navigate the bureaucracy and overcome stereotypes and discrimination to equip herself with a tertiary education, a modified van, and employment. Bill Gates was equally impressed when he saw the value of having himself photographed with Angel at Valencia College.
Angel was “a groupie” in the best sense of the word; people wanted to hang out with her because she was tender, positive, bubbly, and humorous. She was a good listener, a traveler, and adventurer right down to the tattooed eyeliner! These attributes destined Angel to become an LPA leader. She served as both Chapter President and Newsletter Editor for Chapter 13 in Central Florida.
Among many things, Angel’s presence will be missed for her smile and her conversation that was not self-centered. She did not criticize others and was not satisfied with the status quo. Only last year, Robert had the privilege of using his rehabilitation engineering experience to help Angel diversify her mobility from using a wheelchair to also using custom crutches and a walker.
Best of all, Angel never gave up on her dream of falling in love. We are thankful that God blessed her with the love she and Mike shared.
Her life was full and lovely and cherished. How do we accept that she will not be at the dinner table, or the next Chapter meeting, regional, or national conference? We do not understand why she was taken from us so unexpectedly. But we can pray as Angel’s family and friends that we will model the life she lived. We especially pray for God’s comfort and peace: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4.
We remind ourselves that each day is a gift from God and that we do not know how many days God has given us on this earth. Our final comfort is in the knowledge that “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16.

My deepest sympathy to Angel's family. My nickname for her was "Squirt". I met her thru SunTrust many moons ago. We had some great laughs together. Before I moved to VA, we would have to make appointments to get together. I'm glad that I was able to see her before I had moved. She was a dear friend and will be missed.
