Aletha M. Maticka

Aletha M. Maticka, 93, of Midland, died Thursday evening, Dec. 4, 2014, at Marshall Manor. The daughter of the late August and Louise (Stoecker) Sommer was born Oct. 1, 1921, in Munger, where she was raised and educated. Aletha married Edward Maticka on Aug. 24, 1946, in Bay City and they moved to Sanford where they resided all of their married life. After 63 years of marriage, Edward preceded his wife in death on Dec. 28, 2009.

Aletha and Ed owned and operated Edward Maticka Home Builders, Sanford Hardware, Sanford Lumber Yard and were land developers in the Sanford area.They were active participants in the establishment of the Sanford Senior Center. Aletha enjoyed travelling and square dancing. She was a dedicated, loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Maticka is survived by her sons, Michael (Debbie) Maticka of Midland and Edward (Tammy) Maticka of St. George, Utah; grandchildren, Megan Maticka, Derek (Audrey) Maticka, Dana Ureche, Desiree Tirey and Brittany (Matt) Hyatt; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; brother, Earl Sommer; sisters, Bea Carson and Arlene Younker. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Harold and Clarence Sommer.

In keeping with the wishes of Mrs. Maticka, private burial has taken place in Jerome Township Cemetery. Memorials in her memory may be offered to Sanford United Methodist Church.
