Jane Louise Pierce, age 75, of Sanford, Michigan, passed away peacefully at her home on June 9, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Jane was born on March 21, 1948 in Findlay, Ohio, to Robert Harry and Ethel Louise (Bates) Powell, the youngest of three siblings. Jane met the love of her life, William ("Bill") Pierce in the summer of 1964 when Bill and his family moved to Findlay.
Jane attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She and Bill were married in 1968 and shortly thereafter moved to Midland, where they raised their family; daughters Julie and Elisabeth ("Lisa"). Bill and Jane made Midland their home until 1994 when they relocated to their beautiful property on the Salt River in Sanford.
Jane was a respected Midland realtor for over 30 years and never felt like she had to work a day in her career; she loved everything about her job, especially the relationships she formed and fostered with her clients and mentoring newer agents. Jane is a past President of the Midland Board of Realtors and embraced the privilege to serve her profession.
Upon her retirement in 2018, she and Bill spent much of their time traveling; visiting their girls and families in Texas and making many trips to the Upper Peninsula to their cherished family cottage on Lake Michigan.
Jane is preceded in death by her parents; in-laws Russell and Dorothy Pierce; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Barbara and William Guist and sister-in-law Debra Pierce. Jane is survived by her loving husband Bill and by their daughters Julie (Darrell) Wolle of Port Aransas, Texas; Lisa (Todd) Hirsch of San Antonio, Texas; grandsons Owen and Ben Wolle and William, Jonathan and Matthew Hirsch; brother Tom Powell (Monty Sitton); sister Pamela (Gerry) Billerman; brother-in-law David Pierce; nine nieces and nephews; and friends too numerous to count.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas; as well as MyMichigan Medical Center and ProMedica Heartland Hospice of Midland, all of whom provided excellent treatment and care for Jane as she battled lung cancer. A fighter until the end, Jane never lost her trademark sunny disposition and positive outlook. She liked to say her "glass was always half-full" and anyone who had the privilege of knowing Jane knew that she meant it. The family is planning a private ceremony at a later date. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to honor Jane may like to consider planting a tree in her memory or a contribution to The Little Traverse Conservancy.
