Marilyn Louise Varnes Greene

Marilyn Louise Varnes Greene, 84, of Jacksonville, passed from this life on January 9, 2025.
She was born on April 21, 1940, in Harlem, near Palatka, FL and was raised in Florahome, FL. She lived most of her adult life in Jacksonville, and retired there from Bellsouth after 30 years.
Marilyn's lovely southern accent and elegant manner were complimented by her sharp wit, intelligence and natural beauty. She had a deep love for animals, especially her Irish setters, which she proudly showed in dog shows, and her cherished cat, BB. She also cared for countless stray cats over the years, feeding them and ensuring they received veterinary care. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and was a loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Greene; parents, Julian and Merriam Varnes; and four brothers, Mark Varnes, Julian "J.C." Varnes, James Varnes and Garry Mitchell Varnes.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Mitch Varnes (Kathryn) of Satellite Beach, Darrell Varnes of Palatka, Robin Braswell (Clint) of Melbourne, Julie Crosby (Scott) of Gainesville, and Mike Varnes (Tammy) of Florahome; 10 great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her sister-in-law and lifelong friend, Eva Varnes of Melbourne; and sister-in-law Catherine Varnes of Gainesville.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, at Florahome First Church of God with the Rev. Alan Snider officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a local animal charity in her memory.
