Family-Placed Obituary
MICHAEL DAMON YONKERS Michael Damon Yonkers, 36 years old, cherished husband, father, son and brother passed away Monday, May 25, 2009. Michael, a native Floridian, resided in West Palm Beach and was a graduate of F.A.U. in Computer Science. He was a successful entrepreneur, owning his own computer programming business for many years. As a gifted little 4 1/2 year old boy, he won the Palm Beach Post Time's (Palm Beach Post) art contest, Color School Open--out-coloring 6 year olds; he won a national art contest, Kellogg's Wake Up to Breakfast, scoring a 10 speed Schwinn - which he had to grow into; and not yet out of elementary school, he won a national award from Enter Magazine for a computer program of a surfer he called ìHang 10î--designed on his TRS80. There were many awards and accolades for Michael throughout his life. He was a proud member of the Jupiter High School swim team and an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. His passionate hobby, as an adult, was his Camaro. Michael leaves to mourn him his beautiful and beloved wife, Laura; his joy, son, Viktor Zaba; his loving parents, Ed and Cathy Yonkers and sister, Shara (Jason Lipscomb); loving in-laws George and Lee Powell; loved sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Leesa (Aidan Broggy); Jimmy (Ewa) Powell; Michael Powell; Sandy (Johnny Melchor); Sherri (Chuck Grantham) and Salli Powell. He also leaves to mourn him many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and especially his close friend, Jessie Adams. Dooley and Bueller--always faithful to their ìdad.î A Memorial Service will be held at Okeeheelee Park off Forest Hill Blvd., just east of the Turnpike on Saturday, May 30, at 4:00 PM. The family asks that anyone who wishes to speak at the Memorial Service would share a fond memory of Michael. Your good thoughts will be on video tape so that Viktor will know how loved his daddy is. In lieu of flowers, anyone who wishes to express their sympathy may contribute to a scholarship fund being set up for Viktor Zaba and made payable to Viktor Zaba Yonkers. Laura, Viktor and Family,
We were sad and shocked to hear of Mikes death. We offer our deepest sympathy to the family. The children of the neighborhood as well as the adults thought highly of Mike. The kids referred to Mike as the--dude with the cool skateboard and he would let them ride it on occassion. Also, the kids had 4 words for Mikes camero--SICK--TIGHT--SWEET--AND BEAST. It deeply saddens us to hear of Mike as he was a great neighbor to us. He will always be remembered to us, as we remember chasing our dogs and Dolley and Bueller back and forth as they played along the lake in our backyards. Our hearts and prayers go out to Laura, Viktor and family.
