Oh my, here it is September 2023 , and I am just hearing of your passing. I have very good memories of time spent together. I did talk with Steve a few years ago, which made me happy. Time passes, but our memories keep.

Wow, I just heard of Steve's passing yesterday. Had no idea. I did not know Steve and had never met him, but was a huge fan of his ever since I first saw him fight on ESPN when I was in high school back in the late 1970's. I had followed his career ever since and idolized him. In addition to his high skill level in the ring, one of the things that impressed me about Steve was what a gentleman he was and how he never had a bad thing to say about his opponents.
My most sincere condolences to his friends and family. RIP champ. You will be missed.

I miss you my friend. My baby daddy. My biggest Fan. I miss you when I walk down the street in WP. I hear your laugh. Someday it will make me smile but for today I am not ready for that. You are the most courageous man and unique man that I have ever known. Thank you for protecting us and for loving us all the way to the very end. You are my hero. Now and for always. You are a part of me and of us. Give Pat and Neil and Dave my love. I feel lost without the 4 of you, but I will try to be ok by knowing that I will see you again. Until then rest easy my friend. I love you hero. Love mommy

I have thought about death in various ways to cope with the loss of those I thought I could never bare to lose. However there are moments I find peek into my head that describe the true essence of those who once sat beside me. For Steve this was times I drove home from school or a friends house with Sammy going 10 miles below the speed limit, joking with Steve testing boundaries (as everyone knows I seem to do all too often) by saying inappropriate jokes as he politely would turn and smirk at me laugh in this sorta cartoonish "i don't really think you funny" kinda way. And I laughed and we strolled by the water at 6 pm during dusk going at a snail pace because I believe Steve wanted to keep us safe, protected, and ultimately would cut no corners to get both Sammy and I home in one piece. As time passed and we moved Steve frequently checked in on me through out the years I knew him as he knew the pain I suffered in high school. And as I look back I think about how the small ways in which he acted as a role model and I think about he changed my impression of fathers just enough to rethink my interpretation of the love they may feel and show toward their daughter and their friends. And one day I may pass this attitude onto someone I hold so near, dear, and precious enough to drive 10 miles under the speed limit.

Even during this sad time, my memories of Steve seem like a big hug. We were friends during our teens, and I loved seeing Steve when he stopped by Lake Worth Beach, a popular gathering spot. His friendliness and optimism always made things go better. Independent, Steve was welcomed and loved by many. My thoughts and prayers are for his family. Steve Shepherd will be missed by many. God speed Steve!

I never met him, but my ex, Robert Sullivan thought very highly of you as a personal friend, trainer, coach in the kickboxing arena and away from it. Please rest in heaven and get ready for Angel training and keep watching over your loved ones.

Steve personified what a total martial artist should be. The Yin & Yang. As tough as he was, he was equally gentle. Not just a kickboxing champion, he was a son, brother, father, grandfather and friend.
