Mildred Dennewitz Obituary

Mildred Mae Dennewitz

February 27, 1926 - October 27, 2025

NORMAL - Mildred Mae Dennewitz, 99, of Normal passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025 at Carle BroMenn Medical Center in Normal, Illinois.

Mildred was born on February 27, 1926 in Wing, Ill., to Acie "Pete" and Maude Elizabeth (Shockey) Coleman. She met J. Stanley (Didge) Dennewitz at the Crossroads in Forrest Ill., when he returned from serving in the United States Army from 1941-1945. Thirty four of those months were in the South Pacific during WWII. After his return, they were united in marriage on June 22, 1946. They raised a family and lived a wonderful life together until Stan's death on March 7, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Lorraine Honegger.

She is survived and was constantly proud of her three children: Jhan (Pam) Dennewitz, Danvers, Ill.; Jill (Bob) Keller, Normal, Ill., and Scott (Sherri Shannon) Dennewitz, Heyworth, Ill. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Chris (Judy) Keller, Jessica (Brett) Whitaker, Anne Dennewitz, and Trevor (Lauren) Dennewitz. Her eyes shined especially bright for her 7 great-grandchildren: Griffen, Dane, Avery, Lela Mae, Adelyn, Marlo, and Leighton. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Mildred, more affectionately known as Midge, Mid, and most famously Nana, was the epitome of a homemaker. She often enjoyed entertaining family and guests. Her gatherings were memorable events thanks to Nana's hard work, sassiness, sugar cookies, and most importantly, her Texas cake. She loved being outside, whether walking the trail, gardening in her beautiful yard, or simply watching the neighborhood squirrels and hummingbirds. But what fueled Nana's heart the most was the love she had for her grandchildren. She cared for each of them for many years when they were young. As they grew and started families of their own, her smile grew bigger and brighter with each great-grandchild that arrived. She loved keeping up with all of their activities and hearing stories about each one's adventures.

A Celebration of Life will be held to honor a life very well-lived on Saturday November 22, 2025 at Destihl Brewery from 1 to 4 p.m. The family will hold a private burial service at Funks Grove Cemetery where they will lay her to rest next to her husband. Memorials may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association in honor of Didge or a charity of the donor's choice.

Mildred/Midge/Mid/Nana will be deeply missed by those that knew and loved her, but comfort is found knowing Mildred lives on in the hearts of those she touched.

Calvert and Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, Illinois, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Dennewitz family we are so sorry for your loss and ours being a nextdoor neighbor for 39 yrs. Midge was a special lady, she helped keep an eye on our kids when they were little. We watched her children grow and her grandkids. Many conversations over the years, she hosted our neighborhood picnics until she couldn't anymore. I could go on and on. So thankful to her family for helping her stay in her home, which is what she wanted..She will be missed and her cinnamon rolls..

Midge was a beloved neighbor and friend who I dearly loved and will miss. We enjoyed many visits and talks. She would call often to check on me. Hers was the last of the 15 homes I saw built that was still housing it´s original owner. She was a feisty lady and special friend.
