JOSEPH LEE BURKE Mar. 19, 1928 - Feb. 18, 2014 Joseph Lee Burke, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at the Paradise Hospice House. He was born March 19, 1928, in Paoli, Indiana and grew up in and around Indianapolis. Joseph was one of ten children. During his life, Joe served in the U.S. Army in 1946 and 1947. After that, he worked as a mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office for 22 years. Joe was very proud of his service as a postman. On November 14, 1971, he married Nancy Gardner. In 1990, Joe retired, and he and Nancy moved to Magalia. Joe proudly served as a deacon at the Magalia Community Church. He loved working in his garden. In July of 2013, Joe moved from the Magalia home he shared with his wife, Nancy, to the Feather Canyon Retirement Apartments in Paradise. Joe had a gentle and forgiving soul. He lived his faith by being a giving and trusting friend. He had an open heart. Joe is survived by one brother; Robert (Betty) of Banning, CA. His two children, Deanna and Joseph Jr. predeceased him. A Memorial Service for Joe will be held at the Magalia Historic Community Chapel on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe's memory can be made to Paradise Hospice or the Magalia Community Church in care of Newton-Bracewell Cremation and Funeral Service.
