Joyce Lynn Banowsky Fogo, of Pearland, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2015 at the age of 87. Born in Wichita Falls, Texas to Aubra Benton Banowsky and Verda Crabtree Banowsky, Joyce graduated from Lamar High School in Houston, Texas at the age of 16 years old. Joyce enrolled at Abilene Christian College then transferred to George Pepperdine University in Los Angeles, California where she met and married the love of her life, Peter Charles Fogo.
Pete, an All American basketball player, was drafted by the Chicago Gears, so Pete and Joyce moved to Gary, Indiana where Pete and the Chicago Gears won the 1946 and 1947 World Basketball Championships.
After the birth of their first son, the family moved to Pasadena, Texas allowing Joyce to complete her Bachelor's Degree at the University of Houston and to begin her career as an educator. Joyce taught in the Pasadena School District at Kruse Elementary, Mae Smith Elementary, Southmore Intermediate, and the final 20+ years at Sam Rayburn High School. During these years, Joyce completed her Masters Degree in Art History. Many of Joyce's students at Sam Rayburn excelled in contests held by the National Art Institute. Many more won in the High School Artist's division of both the Pasadena and Houston Rodeos.
Joyce enjoyed traveling to Mexico, Europe, England, Russia, and throughout the United States with her children, grandchildren and friends. Joyce cherished her many trips to California for visits with her sister, Doris Arrington and family. Also she made several trips to California and Hawaii for watercolor painting seminars. Joyce's beautiful watercolor paintings are admired by many.
Joyce was predeceased by former husband Peter Charles Fogo, son James Charles Fogo, parents Aubra Benton Banowsky and Verda Crabtree Banowsky, brothers Jack Benton Banowsky and James Aubra Banowsky.
Joyce is survived by her son Donald Fogo and wife Mary Moore, daughter Laura Fogo Bass and husband Paul Bass III, daughter in law Robin Fogo, and grandchildren, Neal Fogo, Michael and wife Taylor Fogo, Dorian and husband Griffin Mayer, Paul Bass IV, and Chris Bass, as well as great-grand children Maris Fogo, Dominic Fogo, George Fogo, Ellie Fogo and Griffin Mayer II, sister Doris Arrington and husband Robert Arrington, sister-in-law Elizabeth Banowsky, numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Joyce Lynn Banowsky Fogo will be held
Saturday April 25, 2015 at 1:30 p.m.
The Estates of Chesterfield Clubhouse 1707 Briarchester Katy, Texas 77450
Final resting place will be at the Wade L. Banowsky Family Memorial Garden, in Colleyville, Texas.
