Joseph Garcia Obituary

JOSEPH JAMES "JOEY" GARCIA

Born on November 27, 1943; and passed away on February 22, 2012, peacefully in his sleep. Joey lived a full life in the cities of San Fernando and then in Sylmar, California

Joey had a great love for Our Lord, his wife, his children, grandchildren, family and for sports, especially baseball. As a young boy he played baseball which became his first love and favorite pastime throughout his lifetime.

In 1964 Joey married the love of his life, Mary Aguinaga. Once Joey became a father to Joe, Ronnie, Reggie, and Randy, his love for them and baseball continued, becoming a coach to his four boys. Joey loved his family very much spending time and enjoying many family vacations, birthday parties for his children and grandchildren, and many family gatherings with his siblings. He enjoyed spending numerous hours with his brothers Johnny and Donald talking about Our Lord and Savior, sports, and other topics. Joey enjoyed hang out with friends and extended family either at "Carrillo's Tortilleria", "Carrillo's Barber Shop", or his men's monthly "Circle of Friends Breakfast Club" (who last met in early February). His latest commitment serving the Lord was by joining the Legion of Mary.

Joey's faith in the Lord was never second guessed. When he ran into people around town or at church he always offered a "bowl of soul" with a prayer or blessing. Wherever you asked Joey, "hey Joey what's up?" His reply was always, "The Lord's what's up!" Joey was a big influence in many people's lives that he continued to touch. Joey will be truly missed by many.

Joey is preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Maria Garcia; sister, Marylou and Compa (brother-in-law) Haze Granados. Joey is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary; sons, Joe (Trina), Ronnie (Eduvina), Reggie (Mia), and Randy (Monique); grandchildren, Joann, Ronnie Jr., Reggie Jr., Joey Jr., Ariana, Art, Anthony, Chris, Josh, Alaina, Jacob, Elijah, Isaiah, Randy Jr., Miranda, and Aaliyah "Yaya"; and great grandson, James; siblings, Johnny, Donald (Linda), Eleanor (Tom), Linda and Molly (Kali); and Sandi, their dog. Along with numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles and extended family and friends. Joey will never be forgotten!

Services Thursday, March 1, 2012, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., at the San Fernando Mission Cemetery Chapel, with a Rosary prayer at 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass on Friday, March 2, 2012, 11:00 a.m., at St. Didacus Catholic Church in Sylmar. Graveside service immediately following at San Fernando Mission Cemetery.

Hey Brother,
How are things up in Haven, I have been listening to the CD you had me make copies of, Oldies Gospel Music and I just could not keep from crying thinking about when I would drive you some where and I would play the CD and you would get all wound up praising the Lord, I can still feel your happiness and emotion. You are a great singer, I bet the Lord loves you and Donald being there to entertain. Miss your bowl of soul and all your sayings. Love and Miss you,
Your Sis

Today is 5 months that you left us on February 22, 2012. Joey I miss you so very much, today I received a message from Steven Garcia our nephew saying that he had to take our oldest brother Johnny to the hospital, I could only think the worst,I asked our Priest to mention him so that all the congregation would pray for him. Then I found out that it was a reaction to something he used. I thank the Lord for it not being serious. I miss you brother. When I received the news I wanted to call you and Donald I then remembered you both are with the Lord. Oh how I miss you my brothers. A day does not go by that I don't think about you both, you have both left a void in my life. But I know you are happy with the Lord. I miss your bowl of soul. Pray for me and our family. Love you Joey now and forever. your Sister Eleanor aka Flaka

When we rolled in the neighborhood listening to Old School Jams Joey's Spirit often tempted him to Jump out of the car in the middle of the street and do a Jig to the Music, it was for the Love he had for Life, Family, Friends and the "Holy Spirit" as he always put it.

Joey's Love for the Lord was contagious. In the early 90's He inspired me to do classes together to get our Confirmation, Communion and Baptism at Santa Rosa. He also got me to volunteer with him at Juvenile Hall working with the Kids, but he did much more work for The Lord than most know, taking His message to many facilities, the street's and reaching out to anyone in need for a Bowl Of Soul. He will be rewarded.

Our prayers go out to the Family, and those who Loved Joey!
Catch you on the rebound Brother, we'll catch up soon!
Our Condolences: Tony Contreras and Father Ralph Contreras.

"Father, Father" he said, "Everything is possible for you. Take away this cup from me. Yet I want your will, not mine".
Letting go is so hard my brother, I miss your daily calls. When the phone rings I think if it were only Joey calling me, as he used to. In my heart I know you are no longer suffering and you are pain free. Rest brother Rest in Peace.
You will be in my heart and prayers always,
