Rick Dewey, 53, died at home July 22, 2006.
He was born in Akron and attended OSU after graduation from Firestone in 1972. He served as an Army Captain in Alaska and lived there 10 years. In 1986 he returned to Akron and worked in construction, specializing in renovation and restoration of older homes. In 2003 he married his long time companion Kathleen Ohlinger.
Rick joined the 1192nd Engineer Company, Ohio Army National Guard and was recently promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was employed as a Range Technician at the Ravenna Training and Logistics Site.
Rick was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy; and parents, Joyce and Dick Dewey, and is survived by his sister, Pam (William) Gnodtke of Charlevoix, Mich. He was a generous friend, a caring husband, a go-to guy, who shared his time and talents with others.
He was honored by the men and women of the 1192nd at a Memorial Service in August and will be buried at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio, September 10, 2007 at 10 a.m. In remembrance of Rick, memorials may be sent to the Fisher House Foundation-Ohio, (a lodging network assisting military families), 1401 Rockville Pike - Suite 600, Rockville, MD 20852.
