Larry Aillaud Obituary

Larry Wayne Aillaud, better known as "Lid", passed away on June 21, 2023 surrounded by family after a courageous fight with Alzheimer's.
Larry was born an only child to Walter and Eula Aillaud on November 6, 1949 in Borger, Texas. After moving to San Diego, he discovered his love of basketball, skimming on the beach and his young bride Lorrie Woolpert. They married in 1971 and welcomed their two daughters, Rebecca and Kerry in 1972 and 1973.
His desire to provide for his family took him to Wyoming to work in the soda ash mines, back to San
Diego and finally to Port Angeles in 1976 where he would come to call home. He took great pride in his
work as a laborer/operator and often pointed out the many projects he was involved in. His employers
included Del Guzzi, Grant Simpson, Primo Construction, Lakeside and Cedars Golf Course. He and Lorrie also owned and operated a tavern appropriately named Lids Place in Port Angeles. He retired in 2011.
When not at work, Larry was playing , coaching and refereeing ball……basketball, softball, and finally
hitting a golf ball. He played softball with the same group of guys he still calls friends today. In 1982,
he traveled with his basketball team to Australia. He also had a love of biking and on his 40 th birthday,
rode his bike to Hurricane Ridge and back. It was his bike that gave him the most joy as his Alzheimer's
progressed. In his later years, he discovered golf and could be found most days at Peninsula Golf
Course (it's where he got his Hole-n-One!), then at Cedars Golf Course and always looked forward to
playing Alta Lake Golf Course with the Kettel family.
In 2009 Larry rekindled an old friendship with Pam (Kettel) Priest and eventually married in 2016,
shortly after his diagnosis. They resided in Sequim and spent time enjoying family, a little traveling and
a lot of golf. She became his primary caregiver and along with family and friends, did her best to provide
love and support.
Larry leaves behind his wife Pam, daughters Rebecca Stanton (Shawn), Kerry Rueck (Scott), Grandkids
Taylor Balkan, Sydney (Balkan) Myers, Cole Rueck, Kate Rueck and Macey Rueck, Quinn Stanton, Sahara
(Stanton) Batchelor, Abbi Priest, Saylor Priest, Stepchildren Cara (Priest) Haughey, Zach Priest and aunt
Margaret Robinson. He was preceded in death by his Mom in 1985 and Dad in 2020.
Larry had a superpower…to make everyone around him happy. Singing cards and dancing stuffed
animals were his trademark. He would say he was lucky enough to have great daughters and even
greater grandkids. He loved being "Papa Lid". He never met a stranger or a dog he didn't pet. He was
rock solid and will be remembered most for his strong, warm hugs.
The family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to Dr Hobbs, Highland Court and Assured Hospice for
their care and support.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 16 th from 1:00-4:00 in The Cedars Golf Course Legends Room,
Sequim, WA and all family and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers, it is requested a donation be made
to Sequim Wheelers, PO Box 276, Carlsborg, WA 98324.

Hugging the family- sincere condolences. I remember Lid from Lids Tavern. He was always Joyful and Fun to be around. A lot of patrons there that became like a family. My biggest memory is a Super Bowl game held in the tavern and he brought in a ton of sand to get a feeling at the beach! And all those hats on the ceiling! God Bless Larry, heck of a great fun guy.
