Ella Lou Bowen, 89, of York died Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late Richard E. Bowen, Sr.
Born July 23, 1928 in Columbia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth R. (Eckert) and Elmer Henry Doll, Sr.
Ella Lou was a library secretary with the York Suburban Senior High School.
Ella Lou was a 1946 graduate of New Cumberland High School. She was an active member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church. Her church involvement included: greeter at Sunday morning church services, brownie baker for Our Daily Bread, Share and Care Committee and assisting and serving at NOAH luncheons.
She was also a member of Presbyterian Women, the JCC, AARP 3400, the York County Retired School Employees Association, and the Harrisburg Senators Fan Club.
Ella Lou was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Along with knitting numerous sweaters and blankets for her family, she also donated hundreds of hats to area schools and hospitals for children in need.
She is also survived by 2 sons, Richard E. Bowen, Jr. and his wife, Kathy of Greensburg, PA and Ronald E. Bowen and his wife, Leslie of Bel Air, MD; 7 grandsons, Brett (Courtney), Andy (Jen), Matt (Kaitlin), Stephen (Maria), Mickey (Kelsey), Kevin (Cory), and Brian; a granddaughter, Sammy; and 3 great grandchildren, Brooks, Kylie, and Jack. She was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer H. Doll, Jr.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 26, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 311 Haines Road, York with her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Gregory Seckman, officiating. Viewings will be held Thursday, January 25, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. both at the church. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery.
