Alice Monroe Obituary
Virginia Beach - Mrs. Alice Mary Monroe, 72, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family.
Mary, fondly remembered as Meme, is survived by her husband, Ronald; two daughters, Chrissy and Lisa; five sons, Carl, Louis, Edward, Chris, and Curtis Jr.; and three grandchildren, Madison, Riley, and Harrison.
Meme was born in Queens, New York to Henry and Alice Kownack. She was a devout Catholic for the entirety of her life, beginning with her education at Brentwood Catholic Boarding School. After, she attended a nursing school in Yonkers, New York and graduated as an LPN.
Meme had several jobs over the years, the first with Eastern Airlines as a flight attendant. After her traveling stint, she began nursing and met her lovely husband who worked at the same hospital. Ronald joined the military, which ultimately ended in their settling in Portsmouth, Virginia where Meme began working for the dermatologist, Dr. Moreland. She worked for him for 34 years, while also helping to manage her son in-law's business, Christopher Foy Inc.
Meme was a beloved part of every life she touched and the heart of her family. Her service will be held on Sunday, July 9th at the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. on Laskin Rd. at 2:00 p.m. Online Condolences may be shared with the family at www.hdoliver.com
