Gail Simmons Obituary

Gail Ruth Simmons (83) was called home to be with the Lord on April 21 st , after a long battle with atypical Parkinsonism. Born in Chicago, raised in Kansas City, she was predeceased by her loving parents, Alfred Parrish and Ella Fester Parrish and her husband of almost sixty years, John K. Simmons.

She obtained her undergraduate and master's degree in occupational therapy from the University of Florida and worked as an occupational therapist for approximately 20 years. She particularly enjoyed working at the St. Augustine School for the Deaf and Blind in St. Augustine, Florida.

As a mother of young children, she was an active Camp Fire troop leader, snow skier and sailor, and enjoyed summers sailing in the Bahamas with her family. Later in life she enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters and leading charity work with her church, Great Bridge Presbyterian, of which she was an active member.

Survivors include her two daughters, Kauleen Simmons in Gainesville, FL and Laura Simmons

Pouloutides (John) in Chesapeake, her granddaughters, Alexandra and Elizabeth Pouloutides, brother Don Parrish (Susan) in Venice, FL, and sister Carol Siewert (Bill) in Scottsdale, AZ. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on May 18 th at Great Bridge Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Cure PSP, Inc. or Great Bridge Presbyterian Church. Friends are invited to share memories and sign the online guestbook at www.omanfh.com.
