George Starr Obituary

George I. Starr, MD

Shelburne, VT - George Isadore Starr, MD passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2016 in Shelburne, Vermont.

Dr. Starr was born on September 6, 1935 in Paris, France. He was predeceased in death by his parents, Haim and Rudia Starodubski. George, his father and sister survived the horrors of the holocaust when Hitler invaded France during World War II. Although the family was separated for a short time when Germany invaded France, they immigrated to the United States after the war in 1948.

George had a strong constitution and survived many challenges to become a successful physician. He was a graduate of the Champaign/Urbana School of Medicine at the University of Illinois.

George moved with his family to upstate New York in 1965 to partner with Dr. John Southwick at the North Country Medical Center in Champlain. Dr. Starr practiced family medicine for approximately 50 years. George was loved and respected by his patients, community, and his colleagues. He enjoyed helping people and missed it terribly when he retired.

Dr. Starr is survived by 8 children, Kathleen, Christopher, Michele, George, Karen, Reagan, Benjamin, and Dorothy. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Michelene Petrie of Phoenix Arizona and 17 grandchildren.

Dr. Starr retired in 2014. He lived the last two years of his life under the loving care of his daughters.

Out of respect for his wishes no public service is planned. Those who wish could make a donation in his name to your local humane society. George loved animals, especially his dogs.

Our condolences to the family of George Starr . I knew George for many years as a fellow physician at CVPH Medical Center, and was fortunate enough to work directly with him at Meadowbrook Healthcare. GEorge always seemed younger than his years, always up to date, and such a diaper dresser! He will certainly be missed by many in this community. RIck Lacki and Cynthia Lacki.

In the 1970s when I was doing medical residency I spent 2 wks with Drs Starr and Southwick. Dr Starr was a wonderful role model and a kind, informative mentor. I never forgot him and remain grateful. Sorry for your great loss.

For all of the Starr family- I knew and worked with George for many years at CVPH Medical Center. He was a pleasant, thoughtful and cooperative man and Doctor in dealing with the many, many patients we shared. As I am out of town right now, I was extremely sad to read of his death in the Press Republican. We spoke often about the Holocaust and his experience. Our thoughts are with you.
