Jeanette Jensen Obituary

Jeanette M. Jensen

Chesapeake - Jeanette McSwain Jensen, 94, of Chesapeake passed away at home, Wednesday, August 20, 2014 surrounded by her loved ones.

Jeanette was born in Kings Mountain, NC, on October 3, 1919 to the late John Spurgeon and Margaret Eugenia McSwain. She was also predeceased by her husband, Oluf Jensen.

Jeanette was raised on a dairy farm in her early years and sang in the McSwain quartet with her brother, Eugene and sister, Juanita at church every Sunday. She attended Boiling Springs College where she branched out to sports and academics of all kinds. She went to work at the war production board in D.C. from 1942 to 1944, then with the Department of State from 1944 to 1950. Jeanette moved to California where she worked for the Fresno Agricultural Works. She returned to the State Department in 1952 and later retired in 1973. Jeanette worked in the Executive Secretary's office of the State Department and went on President Eisenhower's far East trip in 1960. She earned multiple outstanding service awards. Jeanette was loved by all who knew her. She spent her last 40 years traveling, playing golf, and caring for her family.

Survivors include her son, Rickie L. Roberts; granddaughter, Melissa L. Day; and great-grandson, Richard Logan Day.

Jeanette will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery with her husband, Oluf Jensen at a later date.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Kim and Becky with hospice care who made her last week of life peaceful.
