Mary Alice Dunlap

Mary Alice Dunlap NORFOLK - Mary Alice Woodward "Lolly" Dunlap, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord on Sept. 8, 2009 at her son's home in San Antonio, Texas. She was born Jan. 2, 1922 to Harry and Claire Woodward in Greensburg, Pa. She attended Nyack Missionary College where she met the love of her life, John Dunlap, and they married in 1943. Moving to Norfolk in 1944, she assisted John by developing and directing the music program at their church, Tabernacle Church of Norfolk. During their time there and with her support, he also founded Norfolk Christian Schools, Triple-R Ranch, NILD, Urban Discovery Ministries and Radio Productions. She was predeceased by John in 1980, and by her son, Don, in 2001. She taught women's Bible classes and led music also at the Virginia Beach Community Chapel and the Williamsburg Community Chapel. She was cared for and survived by two sons, Dan (and Priscilla) Dunlap of San Antonio, Dave (and Mary) Dunlap of Hertford, N.C., and daughter- in-law, Goree Dunlap of Norfolk; 11 loving grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was second of 11 siblings and is survived also by Ruth Lyons, Helen Swiner, Jerry Woodward, Dick Woodward, Sally Baker, Thom Woodward, and Joy Janes. A family interment will take place at the Triple R Ranch and a memorial celebration of life will be held at Tabernacle Church of Norfolk on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 3 p.m. Memorial donations can be made to the International House via Tabernacle Church of Norfolk, 7000 Granby St., Norfolk VA 23505.
