William Collins Obituary
Windsor - William Grantly Collins, Jr., 69, of the 27000 block of Spivey Town Road, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014 in Obici Hospital. A native of Muskegon, MI, he was retired from the US Navy after 22 years. He worked for the Portsmouth Police Dept. for 14 years and was an investigator for the Suffolk Public Defenders Office.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel Smith Waters and his step-father, Homer Deal, and his first wife Valerie Collins.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy P. Collins; five daughters, Judith Collins Bracy and husband Eric of Suffolk, Mary Collins Thompson and husband Rick of Portsmouth, Anna-Lee Blythe, Mary Alice Blythe and Jessica Blythe, all of Windsor; five sisters, Sally Ellis, Patricia McGarity (Ron), Jean Porter (Melvin), Susan Diaz (Talanis Morris) and Lorraine Salazar (Reuben); two brothers, Robert Collins (Connie) and Thomas Walters (Rhonda); a nephew, Carl Winckler (Tiffany) of Chesapeake; an adopted son, Osvaldo Aldama, Jr. of Miami, FL; six grandchildren, Erica Bracy, William Thomas Bracy, Selena Thompson, Brandon Winckler, Autumn Thompson,and L.T. Foster; and his first wife, Valerie Collins.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 26, in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel by the Rev. Tom Holland. Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Foundation or a charity of the sender's choice.
