William Garner Obituary
Bill was a graduate of Maury High School (1962) and attended Old Dominion University. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve and finished at the top of his class in Automotive Mechanics at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved, Debbie Hazelwood; son, William Alfred Garner, Jr (Karen); sister, Rose Garner Staat (Larry); brother, Thomas Everett Garner; grandchildren, Landen, Lillie, and Jacob; Debbie's children, Meredith McKee (Drew) and their daughter, Gibson, and Allison Brown (Russell) and their children, Owen and Olivia; his nephew, Gregory Staat (Anne) and their children, Carrington and Jennings; and his niece, Greta Staat (Michael Halusek).
The family will receive friends at a visitation on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. in the Norfolk Chapel of H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts., 1501 Colonial Ave. A memorial service in the Norfolk Chapel will be conducted the next day, Friday, Nov. 4th at 2:00 p.m., and a reception location will be announced at the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to mds-foundation.org.

I have many great memories playing volleyball at Mallory, and TVA, and playing golf with Bill. He always loved playing both, and was a great competitor. And, win or lose, he was always a great guy to talk with afterwards over a few beers. I will miss you Bill, Rest in Peace. My condolences to Debbie, and Will, and the rest of the family.

I have fond memories of the Garner family on 34th Street in Norfolk and the Forehand family on 31st Street. We all went to James Monroe Elementary, Blair Jr. High and Maury High, as well as Park Place Baptist Church. Wiliam was a year older and Rose a year younger than me. I specifically remember the pomegranate tree in the Garner's yard. How great growing up in the '50s and '60s. I remember William as somewhat quiet and reserved. He came from a fine family, as most of us did back then, and we had a wonderful neighborhood with the likes of the Garners, Forehands and other fine families. God bless your family as you grieve the loss of Willliam.
