Peoria - Alvin Wayne Polich, 75, of Bella Vista, Ark., formerly of Peoria, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, at Webb City Health & Rehabilitation Center in Webb City, Mo.
He was born on June 13, 1933, in Peoria, Ill., to Louis Joseph Polich and Hildegard Emilia Bontjes Polich. He graduated from Peoria High School in 1951. He served in the United States Air Force. He received a B.S. in civil engineering and an M.S. in engineering administration from Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. Alvin married Kathryn Anna Flexer on Dec. 27, 1958, in Reading, Penn.
He was vice-president and chief engineer of Toledo, Peoria and Western Railroad, East Peoria, Ill.; regional engineer of Santa Fe Railroad, Los Angeles, Calif.; director of engineering services of Santa Fe Railroad, Topeka, Kan.; and director of public projects of Santa Fe Railroad, Kansas City, Kan. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in several states.
He was a member of the Peoria Magicians Assembly, Society of American Magicians and International Brotherhood of Magicians.
He moved to Bella Vista, Ark., in 1996.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista.
He was an avid golfer, woodworker and magician.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Polich of Bella Vista, Ark.; two sons, Robert Polich of Monterey, Calif., and David Polich of Aspen, Colo.; and one daughter, Wendy Polich of Denver, Colo.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Drive, Bella Vista, Ark., with the Rev. David Fleming officiating.
Arrangements are by the Bella Vista Funeral Home & Crematory, 2258 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista, Ark.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1801 Forest Hills Blvd., No. 200 A, Bella Vista, AR 72715; or to the First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Drive, Bella Vista, AR 72715.

I worked for AL at the TP&W and later in or careers we worked for the Santa Fe together. He was a great guy and we will miss him.
