Jan Hirst Obituary
GERMANTOWN HILLS - Jan L. Hirst, 56, of Germantown Hills passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at 3:01 a.m. at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Jan was born on March 20, 1960, in Marion to Glenn and Virginia Campbell Breeden. She married Rod Hirst on October 20, 1979, in East Peoria. He survives and resides in Germantown Hills.
Also surviving are their three children, Chad (Lori) Hirst of Eureka, Dr. Courtney (Dr. Ryan) Stivers of Searcy, AR, and Jacob Hirst of Germantown Hills; four grandchildren, Taylor and Evan Hirst and Colin and Cora Stivers; mother, Virginia Jones of East Peoria; siblings, Steve (Rhonda) Breeden of East Peoria and Gina Haylow of Sumter, SC; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Jan was a 1978 graduate of Washington Community High School and then attended Oehrlein School of Cosmetology. She worked as a cosmologist for several years before devoting her time to raising and caring for her family as a homemaker. Jan's greatest love in life was her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She was a longtime member of the East Peoria Church of Christ. She devoted many years to teaching children's bible classes and VBS.
Memorial contributions may be made to Illinois CancerCare.
A funeral service for Jan will be held on Friday, September 9, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Michael S. Becker will officiate. There will be a visitation on Thursday, September 8, 2016, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be an additional visitation a half hour prior to the service on Friday. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Metamora.

A favorite memory is when my church´s youth group visited Jan´s church one summer for a few days. I chaperoned the youth just to get to spend that time with Jan. I will always cherish that time with her.

Jan was born less than three months before I entered the Air Force, so I did not get to bond with her as I did with the Steve, but she was always loved. Dee and I had hoped to have her in our wedding but then chose 9and I cannot remember the exact reason) an older flower girl. It was a good thing. Jan was sound asleep by the time the wedding got under way. She was a precious little girl and I know she is still precious to some little girls and boys now.

Deepest sympathy to the family of Jan Hirst. I always looked up to Jan as cousins growing up. She meant so much to me. I had the opportunity to meet Jan in Springfiled for breakfast and antique shopping. It was a real treat and a memory I will always cherish. I also appreciated being able to stay with her while our youth group worked with the Peoria Chuch of Christ youth. I am thankful for precious memories. SincerelyDonna Short
