Martha Giebelhausen Obituary
PEORIA - Martha Hannah "Muggs" Giebelhausen, 95, of Peoria passed away at 2:39 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2016, at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria.
She was born on February 23, 1921, in Galva, IL, to Guy and Ella (Kewish) Mugrage. She married Dr. Gustav William Giebelhausen on June 13, 1943, in Galva. Gustav preceded her in death on March 18, 2008.
Surviving are three children, Jane Elizabeth (Dave) Chapoton of Rochester, MI, Richard William (Peggy) Giebelhausen of Morton, IL, and Dean Edward (Connie) Giebelhausen of El Granada, CA; 5 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Her parents and 1 grandchild preceded her in death.
Martha graduated from The Methodist Hospital of Central Illinois School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1942. Upon graduation, she was in charge of the nursery, both at Methodist Hospital and later at Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago.
Martha enjoyed gardening and bird watching. She always had bird feeders wherever she lived and kept a life list of all the birds she had seen. While wintering in Texas, she was able to add a significant number of sightings to her life list.
Martha was very active in the Methodist Hospital Service League, putting in many volunteer hours at their gift shop.
Martha and Gustav were very active travelers and enjoyed visiting the children and grandchildren. A very memorable trip for Martha was when the entire family went to Alaska for their 50th wedding anniversary.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016, at First Federated Church in Peoria. The Rev. Dr. Forrest Krummel will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in the First Federated Church Columbarium. Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
Memorials may be made to the First Federated Church, 3601 North Sheridan Road, Peoria, IL 61604; or to the Lutheran Hillside Village Benevolent Fund, 6901 North Galena Road, Peoria, IL 61614.

Dear Jane and family of my friend Muggs,
Thank you so much for calling me about Muggs. I was kind of worried because she called me last year after a Christmas card. I am glad that she could stay quite active all her life. She was an inspiration to me as well as many others of the birding group in Texas. I learned so much from her. Less than a month ago I had to retire the Bunn coffee maker that she gave me. Gus didn't want it and told her to put it out on the curb. That had to be 12-13 years ago! We have kept in touch at least once or twice a year since she stopped coming to Texas. We haven't gone for about 9 years now. She was a FIRST CLASS lady! I am sure you will miss her. My condolences to all your family.

Dear Jane, Rich, and Dean, On behalf of the Carlson family, I would like to extend our sympathy and concern. We would try to make it a point to visit Muggs on our trips to Peoria to see our mom. She always had such a ready smile and enjoyed sharing Sophie with us. Several times I brought Ann Jones down and it was nice to see Ann, my mom and Muggs remembering the good times from the homes on Briarwood Lane. Our thoughts are with you.
