PEORIA - William "Bill" R. Lewis, 83, of Peoria, Ill., passed away Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born May 12, 1931, in Tuscola, Ill., to William and Ruby (Albritton) Lewis. He married June Marie Wolschlag on June 1, 1952. She passed away July 29, 1984. Bill later married Virginia Harrmann on June 25, 1988. She passed away Dec. 5, 2012.
Surviving are his children, Sharon (Ron) Symonds of East Peoria, Ill., William (Shelley) Lewis II of Bettendorf, Iowa, and John (Cheryl) Lewis of Mackinaw, Ill.; grandchildren, Jill (Tom) Ludwig of Secor, Ill., Johnathan (Alexis) Lewis of Center Point, Iowa, and Alex Symonds of Chicago, Ill.; six great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Pamela (Mike) Bowen of Pekin, Ill., and Ed Harrmann of Peoria, Ill.; four stepgrandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Lewis of Morton, Ill.; and a sister, Betty Hunziker of Winthrop, Iowa.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Don Lewis.
Bill retired from Caterpillar in 1985 after 36 years of service working in the tool crib department.
He was a member of the Peoria Elks Club Lodge 20 and Howett Street Christian Church.
Bill enjoyed spending time with family, mowing his grass, woodworking and watching the neighborhood from his sun porch.
He was a great brother, uncle, husband, grandfather and father.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois.

June, Virginia, and now Bill - all good neighbors in 40 years. I am so sad. They will be missed.
