Pentti Kalevi Haapsaari, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away at home on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at the age of 84, with his wife by his side.
Pentti was born on October 24, 1936 in Kivennapa, Finland. He left Finland with his wife and young family to settle in Canada in 1965. He was employed first with Wanson Lumber, then eventually turned to carpentry, where he honed his craft with various construction companies through Local Union 1669, until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ritva, sons Jari (Audrey) and Petri (Cheryl), grandsons Jason (Cherisse), Jeffrey, James (Eia), Alexander, great-granddaughter Hudson, brother Erkki (Finland), sisters and brothers-in-law along with numerous nieces and nephews both in Canada and Finland.
He was predeceased by his parents Saimi and Vilho Haapsaari, siblings Paavo, Heikki, Antti, Pirko, Sinikka, and Jaakko.
Pentti was an excellent finishing carpenter as seen by details in the homes that he built and the pride that he took in these projects, along with his touches he added to the homes of family and friends.
In his spare time, he enjoyed performing with both Otava Male Choir and Kiikkurit dance group, fishing with his sons, grandsons and brother-in-law Arvo.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service will take place at a later date.
If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Hearts at Home, Hilldale Lutheran Church, or a charity of you choice would be greatly appreciated.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank all his nurses at TBRHSC 2A ward, his VON home nurses, and all his doctors including Dr.'s Miller and Cole.

Spent a lot of time with Pentti over the years. Was almost a second home when I was a youngster. Worked alongside him at Exucon Construction for many years, great carpenter and awesome godfather. I’ll miss you Pentti. My condolences to the family.
