Dorothy Reed Obituary

DOROTHY WIGGS REED Age 94 years of Jackson Township, formerly of Hobart and Ormond Beach, FL, passed away Monday, January 24, 2005 in Porter Hospital, Valparaiso Campus, Valparaiso, IN. She was born February 20, 1910 in Oakland City, IN, the daughter of the late Fredrick and Sarah (Clifford) Wiggs. On June 25, 1941 in Watertown, NY she married Bryan Reed, he preceded her in death in 1987. She earned her Masters degree in Education from Indiana University. Survivors: son, Barry (Barbara) Reed of Jackson Township; 2 grandsons, Bryan Reed and Benjamin Reed, both of Jackson Township. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Ted Wiggs, Ivan Wiggs and Otis Wiggs, and a sister, Vergie Stephens. Mrs. Reed taught Chemistry, Government and Home Economics at Hobart High School for 20 years having retired in 1971. Her teaching career of 44 1/2 years also included teaching positions in Oakland City, IN and Gibson County, IN. Past President of D.A.R. of Hobart and Vice-Regent for the D.A.R. of Ormond, FL, member of the American Colonialists. A member of Order of Eastern Star of Monroe, LA. She attended 1st Presbyterian Church of Valparaiso. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 27, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. from the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton with Pastor Gretchen Seidler-Gibbs officiating. Entombment Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso. The familyi will receive friends on Wednesday, January 26 2005 from 3-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the 1st Presbyterian Church of Valparaiso. Please phone 219-926-1309.
