John L. Deets

JOHN L. DEETS Age 81 of Valparaiso and formerly of Griffith, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2005 at the Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus. He was born on September 10, 1923 in New London, Connecticut to Horace and Hannah (Siecke) Deets. John graduated from Michigan State University and worked as a Research Engineer for Universal Atlas Cement Company and Tennessee Valley Authority. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of: American Society of Civil Engineers, American Concrete Institute, American Society for Testing and Materials, Lions Club of Griffith and Maryville, TN, former president of the L.V.B.I., and a former Town Board Member of Griffith. On February 4, 1946 in Pleasantville, NJ, John married Thelma Myers who survives. Also surviving are his three children, Sheri (Bill) Stockwell of Valparaiso, Camille (Charles) Krueger of Chesterton, and Jeffrey Deets of Gatlinburg, TN; 6 grandchildren, Charles, Trenton, Sarah, David, Stacy, and Callie; and 2 great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents and son, Barry Deets. Following cremation at Angelcrest Crematory, Valparaiso a Memorial Service will be held Monday, March 7, 2005 at 7:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd. Valparaiso with Rev. Lloyd H. Miller officiating. Memorial Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 PM until the time of service.
