Mildred Woodard Obituary

Woodard, Mildred "Auntie" Age 88, formerly of Gary, IN. She passed away peacefully at Golden Living Nursing Home on Sunday, April 7, 2013, after a few years of a long courageous battle of failing health. Mildred was born on February 15, 1925 to Essex and Nora Sheffield, as an only child, both who preceded her in death. She was married to Charles H. Woodard for over 65 years (he was her rock), who also preceded her in death. She is survived by a devoted caring aunt, Grace Bowden-Ash of Gary, IN; eight first cousins, Mary (Edd) Jones, Yvonne Grace, Clinton DuBose, Johnnie (Ethel) DuBose, all of Gary, IN, Betty (Frank) Wallace, of Butler, Al, Bobby (Elizabeth) DuBose of Toledo, OH, Sally Bettis of Chicago, IL; one brother-in-law, Winfield Woodard, Gary, IN; a nephew, Raymond (Kathy) Woodard, MS; and a host of other relatives. Mildred was very active at Israel CME Church for many years. She served as an usher and a member of the Trustee Board. Auntie enjoyed being involved in the community; she was once an active member of the Eastern Star until her health began to fail her. She enjoyed joking, sewing, cooking, going to the boast, listening to music, dancing and hanging out with her family. She will be missed by all who knew her. Visitation will take place on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. followed the Funeral Services which will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Israel CME Church, 2301 Washington, St., Gary, IN. Rev. Stephanie A. Welsh, Pastor and Monte' Williams, Officiant. Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery, 4201 West Ridge Road, Gary, IN.
