John Leo Durbin, 77, of Shelley, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at his home under hospice care.
John was born Feb.12, 1931, in Parma, Idaho, to John A. Durbin and Helen Kiholm Durbin. He graduated from Shelley High School and attended Ricks College and Idaho State University.
On Oct. 22, 1954, he married Iva Ruth Mittelstedt in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
He retired from Boise Cascade after 35 years of service.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many positions in the church, including a 10-year mission at the Family History Center.
His interests and hobbies included spending time with family and friends, woodworking and family history.
Survivors include his children, Guy (Vickie) Durbin of Idaho Falls, Rick (Cammie) Durbin of Victor and Lori (Mike) Moad of Shelley; brothers, Phil (Ann) Durbin and Bud Durbin, both of Shelley; six grandchildren; and four adopted grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at the Shelley LDS 1st Ward Chapel, 184 N. Park, with Bishop Mark Nelson conducting. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. Saturday prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley. Condolences can be sent to the family online at www.nalderfuneralhome.com.

Grandpa Durbin,
We have been touched by his kindness most of our live and it has been our good fortune to have had the Durbin family adopt us as part of their own We loved John as a father and a grandpa . We are forever blessed by knowing him
